92 Escort wagon taillights (pics)

crazyhorse suggested Escort wagon taillights might look good on a Pinto wagon and I agreed. So I bought a pair with sockets, screws some of the wires and even the bulbs! The day they got here I had to see how much work the swap might take me or if I liked them at all.

The lights are sitting on paint can caps. They look a little bug-eyed.

I pulled the passenger side light out of the Pinto and pushed the Escort light in as far as it would go. Its sitting pretty low. The lip on the wagon needs to be trimmed to get in further.

They look better in person. I was using a 28mm lens when photograghing, so, there is a little distortion.
I cant believe how light the Escort lights are. Both lights complete weigh less than one Pinto light alone.

I can't beleive just how close those are. I thought they looked close, but that was from behind the car ,on the road LOL

Yeah
This is going to be easier than I had thought.  ;D
The wiring will be fun.
The top picture shows where the lights are going to be. They wont interfere with the lift gate at all. Im planning on getting them as deep as the stock lights. Pretty much flush with the body.

I should get the 71-73 fiberglass rear bumper before I go further with this.
Hey SVOwagon, Still want the bumper ends? Look in the 3rd picture and you can see the one that is scuffed. The drivers side is in better shape. They both look dry. If you want them, you got em. Just pay for shipping. ;)

going from a 2 bulb to a 3 bulb taillight might be a trick, you'll have to separate the brake light from the turn signal somehow (maybe running new wires from the flasher?) i'll check the wiring diagrams in my haynes book to see where the best place to come off those would be. but i'd DEFINATLY keep the brake/tail wires stock those are way too important on our explosive Lil Horses (tongue firmly in cheek) ;D

Thanks crazyhorse.
8upwithpinto I like the fact that Ill have seperate turn lights. These lights are much brighter too.
If the car was in better shape Id probably leave them stock. Since theres rust I figure I might as well do some mild custom bodywork.

ok looks like there's a white/Lt blue wire coming out of the turn signal switch, that's the RT FR turn signal wire. the left is Lt green/white. coming off these should give you separate turn signals in the tails. they "should" carry the extra current of 2 extra bulbs.
this if from the 79-80 wiring diagram in my Haynes manual.

they've never lied to me before, but there's always a 1st time LOL
