go to pintostampede.com (http://pintostampede.com) and register for the drive of a lifetime. The dates are confirmed June 3rd, 4th & 5th 2011. Carlisle Pennsylvania. The 40th anniversary of the Pinto. We plan on arriving on Thursday the 2nd. mid day for registration. Don't miss out, we are planning early so we can plan it right. Make this a vacation for the whole family, see this beautiful country and spend time with freinds both new and old.
This thing could go all the way! From California that is! Three California Pintos signed on today. A few more and this could be some trek. If you are interested, fill in the questionaire below and e-mail it to bosspinto@pintostampede.com
In order to accommodate, get better rates and make this experience joyful for those who wish to participate, please fill in the questionaire below so we can look into a route, basic head count, accommodations, sponsorships, etc.
Name?
Address?
Telephone number?
Type, color and year of pinto or Bobcat?
Is your car road worthy or will be by June 2011?
Where are you coming from?
How many miles could you drive in a day?
How many days of driving can you tolerate?
What route would you prefer to take I-80, I-70, other?
Are you planning on making the entire trip, or where would you like to start from or meet up?
Are you bringing a trailer? (otherwise we may have to pay for support vehicles, we are also looking into sponsorship on this)
If someone else brings a support vehicle, would you consider chipping in for gas expenses since this could possibly keep any of us from being stranded?
How much would you consider a reasonable donation toward a support vehicle if no sponsorship can be arranged?
Do you have any spare parts?
Would you consider letting others use them in an emergency? (if they agreed to reimburse of course)
Would you prefer to camp out or make use of a hotel? (we want to look into group rates)
Are you driving back home or would you like to have your car trailered? (we may look into group rates on a truck)
Anything else you feel was missed or is an important issue, please add this information as well.
Thanks, It may be early, but I am trying to get an idea of how many to plan for.

I have a beautiful all original 1971 Pinto for sale that could make the drive from California to Pennsylvania OR it has a tow bar already in place from it's RV days. Interested??
Where are you, what price, and have you got pictures? ;D
A documentary will be made following the Pinto Stampede and the trip to the 40th Anniversary in Carlisle Pennsylvania. It will cover the interesting people that own Pintos and what drew them toward owning one. Working together as they make the trip across America, taking in the sites, and making memories along the way. The history of the Pinto, the myths and public perceptions. All while raising money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project.
For more information, or to join in go to. http://www.pintostampede.com (http://www.pintostampede.com)
I wonder if they will turn the cameras off we you meet up with the Southern Brigade iwth our Bonnie Blue Flags.
lol. this should be an interesting trip with you on board CB! :)
CB, where are you meeting up with us? How about Denver! :welcome:
The 30th in 2011 we have Our BIg Memorial Day Parade here in Monona WI.I WILL work to have my car in the parade promoting our trip and the Wouned Warrior Project. Hopefully my son , who will be deploying to Afganistan soon, can join us. If I have my car finished by this Memorial Day I may try to get it in the parade this year.

If you head up here, you'd be positioned to fall right in line on Interstate 81 - If you do that, I'll see what I can do about getting you some publicity!

Flash,
That would be awesome, glad to see some interest in the charity. I look forward to seeing that sport wagon, man that thing is sweet!

I just heard back from the Pennsylvania National Guard. It appears that we were approved for a militray static display vehicle at the Carlisle Fairgrounds on the 40th. The vehicle will be determined based on what is available come June 2011. Hopefully we get some big firepower.
Very cool Norm!
Are we Stampeders going to have stickers/banners on our cars going to Carlisle? I am saving my money and very serious about being a part of this.
Oh I am planning on a fun and brightly lit caravan. I have banners, these will be placed on support vehicles, also I plan on having stickers and refirgerator magnets made (just in case you don't want a sticker on your car) detailing the cities we pass through, so we look like a well traveled suitcase upon arrival. I was thinking of doing a cross country poker run. With przes for the winners, and a game of 21 for those who will only be meeting up along the way. It is a five day drive, so I am planning a slow drive with stops along the way (we don't want to burn up our cars) It should prove interesting, and thanks for setting aside your vacation time for this, I am doing the same.
Hey, How does everyone feel about huge signs on the support vehicles that say " Keep Back 500 feet, Explosive"
Idon't mean to sound like a wet blanket but I'll pass on that one. It just perpetuates the myth that they "blow up". Switch "explode" for "combustible" and that might be another story. I love the fridge magnet travel stamps! I would also be proud to display a Pinto Stampede or Wounded Warrior Project magnetic banner on Ruby! ;D
the magnet might just be the thing to keep my rust bucket together lol.
Combustible, I like it. And ruby will have her share of stuff to choose from, some stuff headed your way in the next few days. Yup, the package arrived.
And we would like to announce another addition to the Stampede. Robert, his wife and his Wagon will make the whole trip starting in denver. Awesome, always room for one more.
I'm starting to really get excited... ;D ;D ;D
I am looking forward to the show bigtime.. I am going to be working on the car some Thursday, so I will be getting some pics to you.
Great, I Will post thopse pictures on the site.
Anyone else who is joining us and has not sent a picture through, please get them to me so i can get them on the site.

Ok Norm I looked at my U.S. atlas to trace the route we're taking, and I'm taking to meet up with folks. Naturally this raised concerns, like "when should I leave Oceanside to meet up with other Pinto Peeps east of me?" and "will we be near any rest areas so I can snooze legally in my car?" I doubt I'll have enough funds to take the car and pay for lodging. I have to drive all the way there AND all the way back! Plus, I really want to go to Gettysburg with some of the Peeps and naturally buy my weight in booty (Civil War booty that is!) Will we be having communication with the Stampede members? Are there any more Cali Stampeders fron SoCal? This inquiring mind wants to know! ;D
Lots of question here, good ones. O.K. Here goes. I plan on trying to accomodate everyone, but it looks like campsites might be the preferred way to go. Which might be cool, we can circle the pintos and sit by the camp fire under the beautiful American Skyline. I am looking into both hotels and campsites in the same areas. So I will have that worked out for you. I picked a Sunday start date for a number of reasons, number one it gives most people a few days to get to the starting point (Friday, Staurday) When you are asking if we are having communication with the Stampede, I am confused, we are the Stampede. If you mean conversation along the ride, I plan on having plenty of radios at the ready, these have about a two mile range. Cell phone numbers will be listed for all Stampeders to keep in contact in case we get split up for some reason (break downs, illness, etc, ) But this will not result in leaving anyone behind. A breakdown is only a 20 minute delay to get back on the trailer and worry about repairs later. I plan on everyone getting there together. Right now I do not have any other South California Stampeders, we had a few until we officially moved it to Denver. I am expecting some more turn out after January when people have a better understanding if it is financially possible. Around October is when the big push will begin to finalize the number
what is the highway of choice to get across PA? it will determin if and when i will be able to meet you
phil
Norm, you answered my query on the communications thing. If I'm the only one coming from my area I'll be by my lonesome and therefore it would be good to have communication WITHIN the Stampede. I was referring to cell phones to touch base. Where will you be in this? Are you coming east too?
I am dragging both my Pintos out west to Denver and driving back to carlilse. Just for you guys and Gals. I actually live about 3-1/2 hours from Carlisle. So I am making the trip in reverse. Let me keep trying to work some magic, Some people will be heading your way on the way back, if I can get a support vehicle for that i will. I am working on it, believe me, my goal in all this is for all of us to arrive and get home safely. Just under Ten Months to go!!!!

Wow! That's what I call dedication. If I could get my Pinto together in time and find someone to drive the tow vehicle for me, I'd be tempted to do the same thing! I'm approximately the same distance from Carlisle as you.

In many ways, I wish I could but: #1 - the Pinto is in all likelihood not going to be ready by then anyway, and #2 - there's going to be a conflict with my son's high school graduation. What fun it would be, though!
Dwayne
Heck, I need to update my picture... Wildfire's NOT going... Ruby is!
She ran calling!!!!!
Well,
I have decided. I booked a room for 5 nights and will fly back for my son's graduation. Even though I won't be able to do the entire show, at least I can do the Stampede and be there for a day. I'll be in my mid 60's for the 50th anniversary and if I can't make that one, at least I will have made this one. I may be able to offer my hotel room for the nights I am away (Sat and Sun)if my friend from Jersey doesn't come out. Things will be more clear as we get closer to the date.
Now, to get the airline ticket....and...oh yeah, the new paint!

Or just hook up with others passing through.
Welcome aboard, I got your pictures I will post them on the Stampede site later this week. Accomodation should be worked out in the next few weeks for the trip. I will post here as soon as that is worked out. We have two Pickups for support vehicles coming from the east coast so far. Anyone with a trailer or pickup on either the Northeast or Southwest (southern Cali) wanting to donate for the trip, we can compensate some for the vehicle, give a letter for tax donation (charity drive) and will perform full tune up etc to make sure you truck is taken care of. If interested contact me at bosspinto@pintostampede.com
This will be a BLAST! I'm tired of the same old car shows and quick trips down the 1/4 mile.
A week long Pinto convoy and stars of the Ford Nationals " Priceless "!
All ready for the car shows now! Got the Pintostampede banner mounted on a board that I attach with u-bolts and wing nuts to my luggage rack. I can mount it facing forward , or to the side.
WOW! Flash that is off the hook! :hypno: I have to go back to the drawing board, I just got out done. And by the way, that wagon is looking really nice, I cannot wait to see it in line with us. Send me better quality pics bosspinto@pintostampede.com i want to post them on the site, along with pictures of that wagon. :drunk:

We could cruise into Steak and Shake.
That should wake 'em up!
I went there last month and more people took pics of my Pinto then anything else.
That would be cool hopfully i can get mine together before it gets cold.
O.K. the thread is going in a different direction, hey Bigtimmay, you coming along for the Stampede?
The pic you posted of my car looks pretty good. Now if only I can get the body work somewhat decent for Carlisle, so she can do good at the show. I don't care if she wins but it would be nice if people don't look past her ugliness. Compared to other 77-78s that were there in 2006 my car was very much the ugly duckling.
if i can get the bobcat running and drivable by then im gunna try too it wont be a show queen but im sure i can try to get a few speeding tickets along the way lol
Don't worry about how showroom ready the car is. Anyone remember the movie used cars? Let's just get them there, from everywhere.
Been working on the website, just want to show you know who is coming that sent in pictures. See the Stampeding Pintos. http://www.pintostampede.com/Our%20Pintos.htm
I have just purchased 12, 2 way radios for the trip so we can keep in contact. They are used (list new for over $500.00 a piece) The have extra batteries, etc. I will also make them available to Stampeders during the time at carlisle so we can keep in contact and just incase you come across that special Pinto part at the swap meet someone may want.
9 months to go.
I have two support vehicles and I will be purchasing two trailers for the trip.
I should be announcing accomodations along the road and the final trip adjenda in the next month, we are making lots of phone calls trying to get the best rates and something that will work for everyone.
Here is the latest, the Indianapolis Sleep Inn is setting up a car washing station, reception and complimentary barbeque for us.
 :welcome: :hypno: They love the idea and cannot wait to have a parking lot full of Pinto's.
I am also finalizing hotel accomodations and have gotten some really good rates. I will contact the Stampeders with details and reservation information in the next two days once I finish signing the agreements. 8 months to go....
:happy_bday:
got my Carlisle reservations in! Entry fee and weekend camping.

Well,
I have all my rooms booked and will register for the show tomorrow. Love the Cruisin' Wagon with the Stampede sign! I'll be driving my orange Runabout. My wagon won't be ready for at least a year. This will be a blast!! I told one of the reservation agents at one of the Sleep Inns about all the Pintos coming her way and she can't wait to see them. I have to work out my webcam so I can broadcast the trip live. I may throw an extra rear bumper and Pinto taillights on a small utility trailer I have to carry extra parts for anyone who may need them. I can call it a Pintrailer! I have a bunch of new timing belts and some boxes of other items that may be useful for anybody who breaks on the way. I just have to decide if I want to yank a trailer for almost 3000 miles.

The raffle tickets have arrived!!!!
Anyone wishing to sell tickets can contact me at bosspinto@pintostampede.com
The tickets are $5 each and come in books of ten.
I will not be mailing out individual tickets for purchase, so please do not ask.
When you recieve your books, sell what you can and mail back the unsold ones with the filled out stubs and the money raised so every ticket and dollar is accounted for.
The purchaser keeps the ticket and we get back the stub with the name address and telephone number of the purchaser.
Then on June 5th at the All Ford Show , we spin the barrel and pick a winner!
The winner if not present will be posted on the Pinto Stampede website, they will be contacted and the guitar will be shipped out to them. All money raised will be deposited into the Wounded Warrior account.
MY VACATION HAS OFFICALLY BEEN APPROVED!!! I was not 100% sure they would let me go but they are!! I am going to talk to my boss and see about getting some support locally. More to follow soon!!!
I already have the backing of Clear Channel Radio-Milwaukee (six radio stations) as well as a couple of other radio stations in the area and as it gets closer, they are going to help spread the word
Well, I have my live streaming channel all set up for my music gigs and will use it for the stampede so you all can tune in to my drive in real time and see what I'm seeing. The link is http://www.joe-escobar.com/jelive.htm
If you go there this Sat, you can see my jazz trio performing live. Also on Dec. 18th, Jan, 1st, 15th, and 29th

Just under 6 months to go! Anyone thinking of joining the Stampede, please let me know, I have good prices on hotels along the way and blocks of rooms reserved in Carlisle at great discounts for Stampeders. It is getting close, if you might be coming, please let me know so I can try to reserve a last minute spot. Most hotels in Carlisle are sold out or are double our rate. Pinto Family: Spoke to the kids yesterday, they're in for the 40th Anniversay at Carlisle. I'm going to register this weekend for the Pinto stampede. We'll be taking the 1971 trunk model, the 1972 runabout, and my Parents 1977 squire wagon. This will be a great family experience. I hope to join the stampede somewhere in central Indiana and follow it to Carlisle. Come on little ponies. Larry :police:

Driving the farthrest to get to Tulsa OK in 2008 won me a beautiful wood plaque!
Not expecting any prize for making it to Carlisle since I'm only 3 1/2 hours away!
Dwayne
So, if I towbar the car to Denver and drive the rest, does that count? Ha! I have a Focus Wagon which I think will handle pulling a Runabout with a towbar. This way I have AC from CA to Colorado! Not sure yet.
If I can even go, I'll probably be driving at night. I don't need A/C, but it would be easier for Ruby, I would think. Who knows, Joe... we might BOTH win! ;D It might be a tie!
Keep your fingers crossed... I have an appointment with Bill Drew of Drew Ford. He might be interested in sponsoring me- at least, in getting Ruby fit enough to make a cross-country sojourn. ;D
I can't wait. Get to Denver, it is all down hill from there!
I just heard from Pintony, he threw his hat in the ring and wanted us to know that if we need help when we arrive near St. Louis he will be there for us. I don't have to tell you that his knowledge of Pintos and his parts wharehouse is probably better than an offering of help from a Ford dealership. Hopefully we will not need any help and everyone will arrive and get home without incident. But it is nice to know help is there if we need it.
Everyone sing it with me! "We got a great big convoy, movin on through the night"
142 days to go until we Stampede!
At this point, I need every bit of help I can get. I haven't been able to put anything away since October, and I have a clutch cable that's failing, so if the dealership can help with that, then I'll be very grateful. I'm gonna put my overtime check (a rare thing these days) and most of my tax refund (I'm hoping I'll get one) in the Carlisle Fund, but right now it's scary. I still have to round up a cheap but decent petsitter for the brood here. I may not make it to St. Louis but I appreciate Pintony's offer. I would love to drool over his '72 Squire... ;D
Keep the positive thoughts and hope for the best. We are pulling for ya! We still have some time left.
I have two options, so I am trying to make up my feeble mind!! :rolleye:
I had planned all along on towing the Pinto on my car trailer. That way I would have plenty of room for all my stuff in the truck since the trunk of the Pinto is pretty much used up with the battery and nitrous bottle. I could also bring the slicks and go to the track on Friday night. But.....
I would REALLY REALLY like to DRIVE the Pinto with the stampede. So, I thought about making a bolt on trailer hitch and pulling my utility trailer. That way I would have room for my stuff and I could also bring my motorcycle and use it to run around and leave the Pinto parked. However, if I do that I wouldn't be able to go to the track Friday night. Wouldn't want to take a chance on snapping an axle or driveshaft or blowing an engine ect. ect. ;D
What to do, what to do....... :lost:

I know I plan to join up with Flash041, 78squirewagon and others in Wisconsin for their start on the Pinto Stampede. Flash041 has it all setup for as many Ford Pinto's as he can gather to be in a local parade on Memorial Day in Monona/Madison Wisconsin, I think he's got 5 so far if I can make it down.
My hope is to join the Stampede! to Carlisle but can't commit right now. However I will do what I can and if nothing else I hope to join the Wisconsin Pinto's, show my support and see them on their way.
Like Norm has said, show your support, even if you can not join for the whole trip, like me, show your support in any way you can. Let's show the Whole World! that every Pinto owner! supports Norm's Pinto Stampede! to celebrate the 40th Anniversary!

Brian, to be honest... when I forwarded that picture of Ruby I really didn't think I was going to be able to make this trip. I'm not absolutely positively sure I can even now (but I think I can!) so I'll try to rectify the situation in thevery near future. ;) Thank you for the good eye!

they don't all have to be shiney, all of mine show their life scars and none are "perfect." Some of my favorite Pinto's are the well worn drivers, they have history and love to keep them going and while shiney is good, drivers are best :D

Becky, it's unlikely I will be able to ride with the Stampede myself, like you I have hope and will do my best but that much time away from work is an impossible task. Keep the faith, do what you can and if life get's in the way... I think we all understand, I know I sure do. I'm hoping everything works out for you, me and all that want to participate.
We will be showcased in the first ever Carlisle downtown parade. I just spoke with Carlisle events, the fee is $10 it would have been waived, but it goes to the township, not Carlisle Events. The parade will take place on Saturday after the judging is complete so you will not loose out on a possible trophy by attending. Please go and register if you plan to attend the parade so we can reserve a key position in the parade. (near the front, possibly really near) If you have not registered for the event, please do that also. Respect the Pinto!

W-A-Y COOL!!! :amazed:
Dwayne
Hmmmm. I just realized that because of the Libya mess that if the price of gas hits $5 per gallon by the start of the Stampede, I'm gonna spend about $500+ in gas each way......yikes.....and thats assuming about 27mpg. It'll be worth it!
Let's just hope that doesn't happen. Why didn't we listen "drill, baby, drill!" No one wants rain on their parade, so let's push for sunshine.
I just signed up two cars for the parade,I might need a wingman on the second car. It's between the '71 Pinto and the '79 Bobcat. Can anybody handle a 4 speed?
My mom can! She will be driving Louise's car from Denver and I know Louise will want to drive hers at the parade since she cannot do the Stampede. Otherwise if someone else really wnats to, she can be my co-pilot.
Friday Ford Racing.com sent out an e-mail to its 350,000 members, mentioning the Stampede and the 40th. For those who are not members to FordRacing.com, here is the excerpt.
Calling all Pinto Owners: Prepare for the Pinto Stampede!
Plus, You Must See the Polish Mustang Club's Cool Video!
The Pinto Car Club of America (http://email.adsmart360.com/link.php?M=19142&N=489&uid=1723&L=905&F=H) is aiming to corral Pinto owners and enthusiasts across the country for a five-day Pinto Stampede (http://email.adsmart360.com/link.php?M=19142&N=489&uid=1723&L=889&F=H) to the June 3-5 Carlisle Ford Nationals' (http://email.adsmart360.com/link.php?M=19142&N=489&uid=1723&L=65&F=H) 40th anniversary celebration of Ford's first domestically produced subcompact car. The 1,660-mile Pinto pilgrimage (http://email.adsmart360.com/link.php?M=19142&N=489&uid=1723&L=909&F=H) starts in Denver, CO, on May 29 and ends in Carlisle, PA, on June 2, with several memorable stops along the way before joining the largest Pinto display ever assembled – including coupes, hatchbacks and wagons of all vintages, plus autocross, SCCA, drag racing and other custom modified Pintos. So prep your little pony and join The Pinto Stampede (http://email.adsmart360.com/link.php?M=19142&N=489&uid=1723&L=891&F=H). Not only can you party with fans of the popular-yet-much maligned '70s economy car (which topped 3.1 million sales from 1971-80), but you'll also be able to raise funds to benefit the "Wounded Warrior Project (http://email.adsmart360.com/link.php?M=19142&N=489&uid=1723&L=884&F=H)" for U.S. military veterans. Too cool!

The publicity has be very excited and proud to be part of the Pinto Community, as well as a Pinto owner! I just wish I could be a rolling participant of the Stampede! :(
Keep sending me emails about it, I read all of them and love to stay in the loop with where the Stampede is and what the plans are!
We just reached 30 members!!!! :happy_bday: We may only be starting with seven in Denver so far, still impressive to have seven Pintos rolling down the road. But by the time we reach Carlisle we will have over 30 pintos so far and the list is growing, three more in the last two days!!!!!! Keep em coming! Their will be a massive onslaught of Pintos at INDY!
:2fast4u:
Alot of things are happening now. I just got word that I will be interviewed about the Stampede on an NPR national radio show. It will not happen until we get closer to the event, I will post information here and on the pintostampede website.
So far our list of planned events includes:
Fort. Riley, attending the Memorial service on Memorial Day & tour of the facility
Kansas Speedway, (Nascar event)
St. Louis Arch.(press and mini show)
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Flight 93 Memorial, Paying respects to the fallen
Carlisle and the 40th Anniversary
Ford Parade through carlisle, Pintos will be a featured car
Live webcast of the event.
Stay tuned, more to come!!!!
I may try my webcam out tomorrow and drive around. I figured out a clean way to attach it above my mirror. If I do it, I'll post it, but the video will be on the Livestream server anyway, so it can be seen even afterwards. I'll be using my cell as a modem, but when it comes time for the stampede, I'm going to upgrade to a higher speed wireless account. So if the video is a little choppy, don't worry, it's the lower bandwidth for the test. maybe I should drive to San Francisco and go over the Golden Gate for you folks that don't have an ocean!!! If I do it, you can see it at www.livestream.com/pintostampedelive (http://www.livestream.com/pintostampedelive)

75 days to go before we Stampede. Things are picking up and hopefuly gas prices will not go any higher. Feedback has been good and our Public relations blitz is finaly getting off the ground and should snowball out of control by the time we set sail. We have a few sponsors giving toward helping the trip happen.
We also have some special P.C.C.A. members who have stepped it up.
Leading the list of contributors is NoForkin who donated $250 toward helping make the trip happen and has also been buying and selling raffle tickets months before we hit Carlisle.
I did a webcam experiment using Ustream and will be streaming my afternoon cummute on Livestream this evening. I think I'm going to stick with Livestream as the Ustream feed failed after 30 minutes. Got a new Droid 3G phone which works great as a mobile broadband modem and streams pretty seamlessly. I have another audio setup that I don't have with me today which will be better, but today's test stream will just use the camera mic.....not that great. I just want to dial in the video first anyway.

If any of you have tried the Pinto Livestream site www.livestream.com/pintostampedelive (http://www.livestream.com/pintostampedelive) you have noticed the annoying commercials. I've been doing test streams and have it pretty dialed in. I'm working on having commercial free broadcasts for the entire trip so nobody will have to sit through the advertisements.

Just 60 days till we Stampede!! :welcome:
It seems like yesterday we were over a year away.
My only regret is not being able to have the car repainted before the trip to Carlisle. Most of the paint is good, only the left front fender isn't original and some of the paint blending into the driver's door. Probably just as well though, as I won't have to worry about new paint getting chipped on this 5,600 mile round trip. Geez that's a lot of driving!! :fastcar:

Yours is the car I am most excited and anxious to see in Carlisle... other than the bumper modification, I think it probably comes closer to my original orange '74 than any other I've seen. I can't wait!!!
Dwayne
Well Dwayne,
Let's keep our fingers crossed that the car makes the trip with no breakdowns. I've pretty much rebuilt every inch of it. New rings, rebuilt head, rebuilt T5, rebuilt 8 inch rear, new driveshaft, strut and upper and lower control arm bushings, ball joints, wheel bearings, shocks, added a front sway bar and power steering, and on and on. The car made it to LA and back doing a steady 75mph to keep up with traffic and did a trip to Monterey with no issues. Gonna drop in a new water pump and fuel pump and maybe bring an extra distributor and backup Pertronix kit. I'll be doing 10 hours from Oakland, CA to Wendover, NV on 5/27 and then another ten hours to Denver on 5/28.
You'll be able to tune in as I'll be streaming my drive live.
Joe
Joe,
I think you will do great, once you hit Denver we are going 55-60 MPH so that overdrive you have will be idling in the low range form that point on. I cannot tell you how envious I am of that T5. I have a new C4 which can realy rip, but with the new headers and all the add ons, a T5 is just a dream to me at this point. I was in touch with Fort Riley today working on some plans. We will have a Ford guy meeting us with his Ranchero who worked at the base for 28 years, and he will show us around. Also another one of the Pinto faithful turned us on to a place in Topeka with 3lb burgers. http://www.specksbarandgrill.com (http://www.specksbarandgrill.com) I think we will need two for all of us, they also have a kitty litter cake which we may have to try. 51 days to go! some final details to work out.

It would appear you've covered most of your bases and I believe you'll make the trip without problems. Of course, there are no guarantees... you could drive a brand new car and have a breakdown. At least with your Pinto, you know its mechanical workings intimately so it's unlikely anything will arise along the way that you can't handle!
Dwayne
Looking at those pictures of Fabulous Fords has me pumped. I am getting stuff together, making phone calls and blasting AC/DC Highway to Hell!!!!!!!!
I am pulling out a day ealier now just to make sure i am on time, rested and ready!

Trail Boss
bosspinto@pintostampede.com
Getting ready,
Bought the second trailer for the support vehicle. (took care of the registration and the inspection)
Got the trailers set up (spare tires, new straps, trailer tool box) been working on them all day.
Rewired the trailer lights on my truck and got the electric braking system tested.
Been test driving the wifes car breaking in the engine after the rebuild, also been going over mine meticulously.
Started going through parts to see what I will bring that is practicle (I suggest all going do the same)
Stopped off and bought some fluids and necessities for emergency purposes (antifreeze, oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, bars leek, epoxy, fix a flat, tire plug kits, etc.) cannot be too prepared.
Time for a beer. :drunk:
Got me a toolbox that the bottom half is going to be filled with all the parts I would need.
just did an oil change tranny flush and lubed the sport mirrors on the 79 i can now adjust them with the windows up!!!! Have to get new front tires and replace the non working am fm 8 track cb radio...it only works on am and the door speakers are shot
Three weeks from now and we be all ready on the road from Denver to Carlisle.
The countdown is sooo close. :lost:
Only 2 weeks til I start MY journey from Cali.
OK who's coming from California besides Joe Escobar and myself? :lost:
i want to go SOMEONE STOP BY NEW YORK AND PICK ME UP PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I would like to thank the Pinto Stampede members for stepping up and making INDY a reality. For those that don't know, INDY instituted a $1,000 fee after saying we could use the track (about three months ago) and then last week when we got the contract they wanted us to carry a $1,000,000.00 liability insurance policy. We could have quit there, but the members of the Stampede have stepped up and will pitch in and INDY will still happen.
Now that's team work. I will be sending out an email with the details to Stampede members in the next few days.

They list the Pinto as one of the ten cars that deserved to fail. I wrote the Editor a nasty letter and gave him links to our site and the stampede......
Ooo, Try not to mess with the media. It is hard to beat them, no one has done it yet. We get more bees with honey. Nasty letters will get us nasty press. Tooo much of that in the past. I appreciate the passion though, keep on it, just keep your feelings in check.

Hey fellow Stampeders! Becky here...
I am leaving Fred's PintoLand early tomorrow morning. If you buy small or flat parts from Fred I can bring 'em along in Ruby. I can bring some glass (windshields and Runabout windows are too big. Door glass is risky but if anyone's interested I'll try). Free shipping!!! These parts here need good homes, so please get ahold of Fred and I'll do the rest! Well, me and Ruby...
Fred is good people and thanks (HUGE!!!) to him this Stampede will be possible for me after all! This is my way of showing my appreciation and helping him out. Sorry for the add-sy way about it. Ok so get some parts! ;D See you all soon! :D
see ya on the Stampede Becky, Happy and safe travels to you.
I'll be leaving tomorrow for the Minneapolis area to spend some time with prostang92 and dmsteen. Then off to flash041's to meet up with the Wisconsin Stampeders. Since I am planning on camping at Carlise and little needed to be done to the car to get ready.... I spent some time restoring one of my other toys.

Brian, the the wife and I both love your Apache. We want to get one of our own some time when we have space to store one! I showed her pictures of it on FaceBook and she wants to go camping now! :D Now the question is, where can I get one?
I love the song you used with the video as well. I remember it from the Farbrausch demo program/video number 25. I used to use their stuff to benchmark my computer systems after overclocking. http://www.theproduct.de/ has a great video of an animated disco character walking and dancing to the song! :D

Craigslist... look under the RV section and do searches for "Apache" I have the Raven (seen in the video) and the slightly bigger Eagle. There is also an Apache forums and facebook page for info, parts and such. I don't see them very often, last 3 years I have seen 3 of them, bought 2. the 2 I have were useable, tents ok (not perfect but useable) and were in the $600-700 price range. The small campers like this sell fairly fast (around here anyhow) so you have to have cash in hand and ready to get when you do see them. I just missed out on an early 80's motorcycle trailer I really wanted, I was the second caller. Apache's are fairly expensive to restore so try to find one in useable condition. The new tent for mine was $760 shipped. Recently I saw one in a back yard not to far from home. I stopped and asked about it only to find out the beds and tent were long gone and they use it as a trailer only. I'm tring to find the one made in the late 70's/early 80's ??? that the hard top was removable and can be used as a small boat!
I made it to Denver yesterday, had only two hours sleep during the trip. Sorry if I wasn't available before, I had to prep the cars for photos and get some rest. Check up on all updates through the facebook page. It is just easier to update through my phone. And to all stampede members, please call me. You have my cell phone and i cannot type emails while driving. I will get back to you. We are about to go on an adventure of a lifetime, safe travels to all and here is the facebook link.

I already had to go do a repair on Becky's car Hywy 95 AZ side going north she will get to I-40 in about 20 minutes. The people out of Malibu CA need to hook up with her, she is too far away for me. I told her she needs to go 580 miles to Alb. New Mexico and try to get a hold of Chuck for place to do overnighter. There she needs to change freeway and head north to Denver. I don't know what's really going on with this run but if some 1 could help I will say thank you. Fred
At 6:40 pm CA time Becky was 40 miles west of New Mexico border that means total mile to Alb. NM she has 200 miles left to go so looks like 11:00 pm arrive. There she needs to change freeway to head north to Denver and go to 91 octane for grade climb. Fred :)
Thanks for the updates Fred. What was wrong with Ruby? Hope it was something minor that wont re occur!
I didn't think of it till just now but, I should have sent her my "Spot". It would have tracked every where she travels. Would also send for help if she couldn't get a signal with a cel phone. I take it with me when I ride my m/c on long trips. Basically got it when I got the KLR. Figured it would come in handy if I wrecked or had a flat up in the mountain roads. Anyway, it would have been neat to track her!! ;D
Well, I made it to Wendover Nevada so far. Next stop is Denver..BOOOORING drive this is. I did it several times when I used to play music in Nevada. Car is running well, but have some sort of driveline vibration. Had the tires balanced on a Roadforce machine in Winnemucca, NV and they checked out fine. Those guys did it for free. Les Schwab Tires of Winnemucca. Might be a trans mount issue.
I hope Becky is alright and everything gets fixed up and she gets back on the road pronto!
Pangra74, hope your Pony gets to Carlisle okay and the vibration doesn't become fierce! I'm keeping tabs on you all! :)
The shake comes in at around 65-70, then sort of blends in, so if the stampeders are going to be cruising 55-60 should be no issue. Hey I also got 29mpg with the 5 speed through the mountains and cruising at 75 thru Nevada
At 10:00 am CA time Becky is on Eye-25 heading North to Denver 80 miles South from Colorado border, still in New Mexico. Car is running better on 91 octane. Fred :)

Thanks for keeping us posted, Fred. I'm planning to try calling her tonight and touch base. Can't help but worry about her until she meets up with the Stampede!
Dwayne
Dwayne last I herd she was stuck in Trinidad CO 180 miles south of Denver. Fuel leak then starter would not work. She called Auto club and Norm. I am thinking if she took care of fuel leak then push start the car. But I think Norm will take it from here. Fred :)
Wow, this is not good. I sure hope she can make it to PA and back! With having so many problems and only into CO, it sounds pretty scary!
I heard there are back of vehicles that will be going along with the Stampede. Do they have tow dolly's or car trailer that they will be towing? Might not be a bad idea for one to tow something! When we used to go on long m/c trips with lots of bikers, we had a back up truck with a trailer, just in case!!
I hope all of Becky's troubles go away and she can make it there and back!!! GO BECKY!!!! ;D
Kim,
I'm pretty sure there are a couple of trailers in the stampede, just in case. Fred didn't say where she was leaking fuel from, but that could be a pretty simple fix. Hope so anyway! Once she makes it to Denver, she'll be in good company and they should be able to help her keep rolling.
Dwayne
Becky is here, she had dinner and is getting some sleep for tomorrow's treck. All will be well, we now how strength in numbers, this trip should show any issues with cars, so once fixed hopefully the return trips will be uneventfull. Dave showed up with one of his two Pintos, he will be going back to Wyoming tomorrow and not continuing with the Stampede. The water is rising and his home is in jeopardy, so the Stampede is going on with four tomorrow. We wish him well and hope the water does not reach his home. Joe made it in safely as well, the webcast will run tomorrow, so tune in at pintostampede.com Thanks for all the well wishes, we got a special blessing today from a local minister from the Unity church of boulder. Good feelings from here on out, we have had our first tests, mine was an alternator just outside of Columbus Ohio a few days back, tomorrow we are rolling in our Pinto's.
:happy_bday: :fastcar: :read:  :drunk:
Norm,
Glad to know Becky connected with you okay. I attempted to call her earlier but she had her cell phone off. There is definitely safety in numbers so I'll breathe a bit easier from now on. I "rode" with Joe via his webcast for a while Saturday. Looking out over that orange hood sure brought back some pleasant memories! See you Thursday!!!
Dwayne
P.S. - Do you have an ETA for the Flight 93 Memorial? I'm planning to meet up with you there so want to plan my trip accordingly.
Glad Becky made it there alright. She's in good company now. :)
Watched the denver news report, looks like everyone was having a great time. Here's to wishing I was there, and a safe trip for you all! :drunk: :drunk:
Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. As Norm said earlier, my car made it with no issues. Love the T5. that overdrive gear enabled me to cruise at 75-80mph and still get up to 28-29mpg to boot. Just have to work out that strange intermittent shake.....
I hope the Verizon network will carry the stream ok tomorrow. Lots of dead zones in Nevada and Wyoming. Even if the stream fails, the software still records to my laptop so i can edit and post the videos later the same day hopefully. I have to clean up the first ones yet. Been too busy driving and praying for no breakdowns...At least now we will go at an easy pace.
Joe

Well, several reasons really.
Mainly money. Just don't have it right now. That and trying to get Bob to take time off for 2 days is like pulling teeth, I would have none if I tried to get him off for 2 weeks! LOL Also, out of my gazillion Pintos I have, I don't trust one of them to get me that far. Heck, I won't even drive the Ghost to LA for Knotts and it is pretty close by!!
Hope you all have fun!!! ;D Take lots of pics!!

From here it's about 3 1/2 hours to Carlisle. With the side trip to the Flight 93 Memorial I think it's going to be more like 6 hours total. Oh well! Unfortunately, I won't be bringing my Pinto but I'll be easy to spot anyway... I'll be driving a :hypno:
BRIGHT :hypno: blue Chrysler Sebring convertible (don't blame me... my wife picked it out). See you there!
Dwayne
I just "rode" with Joe Escobar for about an hour. If there's anyone who hasn't checked out his live webcast, please do... it's almost like being there! If there's anything better than looking out over that orange hood, it's looking out over it and into the tailights of another gorgeous Runabout! I recognized Norm and Becky, who is in the car directly in front of you, Joe? It's a beauty! It makes me want to pull my Pinto out of the garage and hit the road, dents, rust, and all!
Dwayne
Watched the feed myself this morning, we are leaving tomorrow bright and early-
Watched everyone get Gas and start the trip, Joe drove by everyone to get a shot of all the cars and tried to pass Norm- it looked like Norm was having none of that... He He.. Can't pass THAT pinto! Very ausume job Joe and Brian for getting this up for all of us to see- looking forward to joining the group in Indy.

The longest day driving is behind us now. We had fun and I am fortunate to be traveling with a great little group. We picked up Scott Whithed at the hotel tonight and will pick up five more tomorrow, some just going part way. Dave made it home safely, we wish him the best of luck with the flooding and he returned the favor for a good trip. Here is to day two. :drunk:
To Day Two :drunk:
Hope Day Three will be just as fun as you grow in numbers! Wish I could be out there with you! Have enjoyed watching some of it on Joe's webcast. My church congregation prayed this morning for traveling mercies for you and the entire group as you make you way across the U.S. See you soon!
Dwayne
I have been keeping up to date every morning before I go to work and every night when I get home and before I go to bed, just dreaming of what it would be like to in the convoy! And to think I was SOO close to going, too!
Morning - fordpinto.com, Stampede facebook and Joe's broadcast
Afternoon - facebook and fordpinto.com on my phone
Night - fordpinto.com, Stampede facebook and Joe's broadcast
A good routine, but nothing compares.
I know what you mean Dave... I've been wishing I was there too! Just talked to Becky... she's tired, but otherwise doing great. I'm going to meet up with the Stampede Thursday and drive into Carlisle with them!
Dwayne

we were able to catch part of the stampeed about 120 miles but was alot of fun great job everyone
I so wish I could have been a part of the Stampede. I live 1900 Miles away from the starting point though :'(
Anyways, congrats on the Stampede and it was nice to see everybody at the show in Carlisle.
I don't know if this has been answered yet, but I am curious to know how much money was raised for the Wounded Worriors. I did buy tickets (as well as my dad). If I remember correctly, the goal was 10k, correct?

Norm Bagi mentioned yesterday afternoon that he thought it was "unofficially" around $7000. I'm sure he'll let us know once all the figures are in.
Dwayne
We sold 522 raffle tickets, I will do an official count later.
That comes to $2,610
We collected $3,076 through the website
We also collected nearly $1,500 from donations.
We also raised $500 for the flight 93 memorial.
So we are just over $7,000 on the Wounded Warrior Project. I will do an official count when I get home in the coming days. We may also see some more contributions through the website.
Thanks for all the help, I think we masy have helped at least a few deserving soldiers.
Norm, I didn't get a chance to at carlisle but I would like to donate something to the wounded warriors. How can I do so?
Stampede was on HLN news Monday AM about 10:00. Cars looked great!!!!!
Hey everyone, we had over 500 hours of viewer time on my webcast of the Stampede! Thanks for tuning in and wish me luck. Joe,
Glad to know your trip is going well! Did you enjoy your visit to the Henry Ford Museum?
Becky spent Monday after the Carlisle meet in Gettysburg PA soaking up some Civil War history, then drove on down to my house in VA, arriving at approximately 1:00 a.m. She stayed with us Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, saw some of the local sights, and ate a little southern cooking. She headed out on I-81S/I-64W about noon today, starting her trek toward CA!
Dwayne
Glad to hear Becky's status, been trying to call for an update to post.

Norm,
Her plan was to drive for as long as she could stay awake and Ruby kept running! I'm pretty sure she keeps her cell phone off while she's traveling. Ruby seemed to be running just fine when she left here today so I'm just keeping good thoughts! Will let you know if/when I hear from her.
Dwayne
I hope Becky is doing ok. Hopefully she will update her status. I have made it to Lincoln Nebraska as of tonight. 13 hours, 775 miles from Detroit. Henry Ford museum is very cool, especially the F-150 Rouge plant tour. Hope to make Salt Lake by tomorrow, about 850 miles... Having the T-5 is a blessing. I cranked her up to 80mph from Omaha to Lincoln, no problems or hiccups so far.
Joe
Joe watch out for microsopic bugs it costed me $850.00 latter and a lot of naked showers outdoors !! This is no lie I was hitting up Lincoln University "I NEED HELP" Fred :(
Microscopic bugs? You mean in the hotel? I'm at a Best Western in Lincoln
Joe I don't know I was in my Hilton on 6 wheels you may be okay but maybe walking the dog in places we got it but I don
t know other then I will never go to Nebraska again We almost worn out washer running every day. It was a trip bummer not to mention the thousands I had to spend on house because it sat. All the water faucets we had to replace being gone 4 months. Hey good luck I know your car will make it ! Fred :)

Dwayne
Just a quick update! Becky called. She's is Arkansas and suffering a bit from the heat and humidity but overall she and Ruby are doing fine. She's pressing onward and hopes to be home in a couple of days!

GAWD! I love you guys!!!!!! Ruby and I are worn out but happy to be home. I miss the 'puter too because it was not always possible to post updates or visit with everyone online. Ruby idles roughly now but runs like a champ when she's in gear. We did a lot of steady driving in the heat, cold- even what I thought was a hurricane in Oklahoma- so she definitely gets the medal for courage, toughness, tenacity. I merely guided her. Thank you all for worrying, I'm sorry I caused any anxiety. I will treasure these friendships we made for the rest of my life.

Glad you had fun Phil, it was great to see you again! That Bobcat of yours is looking as good as ever.
Well, if I can recommend anything from this trip, the Petronix electronic ignition worked flawlessly. I ran a Powermaster, one wire, 150 amp alternator to make sure I had juice for the laptop, inverter and other electronics, and the T-5 swap is the way to go for high speed cruising. The Pinto actually handles very well, and is pretty stable at high speed. You can ask the guy in the AMG Mercedes that I chased down the western side of the Sierras!! He probably couldn't believe that he was seeing a Pinto in his rear view thru the curves!

Any news about getting a collection of all the photos taken on a CD?
Dave,
The photos are quite big. So far I have eight standard DVD's (4 of the 8gig) of footage and I don't have allot of people's stuff who came. It is allot of info most people put the pictures on snapfish and other areas. Believe it or not, I have not had the time to look at the videos I took during the trip. Maybe later I can put together a highlight DVD or something.
That would be great Norm! It could be featured in the PCCA store! I'm sure all of the charter members would like a copy, at least.
The next video is done but I need the names of two Pinto drivers at Kansas Speedway.
The guy driving the green 71 with the turbo 2.0 and the guy driving the gray 79 or 80 sedan near the front of the pack on the first laps. I'm trying to make sure everyone gets credit for being there.
E-mail me the names at joebone8@comcast.net Then I can finish the video from Salina KS to Columbia MO
Joe
Joe,
I sent that info to you last night along with some other drivers info for the next legs of the trip. Keep em coming it is helping me log in who came as well. There were allot of drop in and drop outs along the way. Man that was a fun ride.
Hey Everyone,

I'll post the new link later today

New link for all of the videos is www.joe-escobar.com/pinto-stampede/stampede.html (http://www.joe-escobar.com/pinto-stampede/stampede.html)
There is a single player on the page with thumbnails for each of the 3 videos.
All of my copies of the videos will live here until I create my new Pinto web page. Norm will have copies for pintostampede.com as well.
Joe
Joe, you so ROCK!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I FINALLY watched the latest installment of Stampede footage... and was blown away! For starters, the music is excellent (nice interpretation of Kansas City! lol I also loved the music played between Fort Riley and Topeka.) Then the reliving that drive... oh yes... and when I needed a push back in Salina. LOL!!! Gawd! I wanna go on that trip again. I wish there was a replay button for experiences like these. Joe Escobar... you've given us the closest thing to it. Thank you. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
