I'm telling you this is a disease! Once you buy one you cant stop! Kinda like eating potato chips, just cant stop at one!! LOL
Yep, I bought another one!! Not sure what I will be doing with it yet, but it's mine! LOL Well almost. I paid for it on ebay and have a truck going after it on next Wed. or Thurs. That is what was the most expensive thing about this buy, the shipping! Although I am hoping hubby will be able to talk the guy down on that price! You know, work out a deal with trading a winch for the guy's truck for some of the fee of going to get the car!! LOL The shipping guy is going to charge us 225 to go get it. Which in a way isn't really that bad, considering it would cost us almost that to drive down there with a truck and trailer. Once you figure the gas, food, and time, his price isn't to bad! LOL
So I paid 100 bucks for the car. Bad thing is, no motor, which really isn't that big of a deal, I have motors. The other bad part is no Pink slip, although the guy has a bill of sale from the original owner. The wheels in the pics are not the wheels on the car now. This was one of the reasons he bought it, for the wheels and the motor. Also the pass. side fender is damaged, but doesn't look all that bad really!!
Here are a few pics. I saved off of ebay!

Now I have to hurry up and wait!! I hate that!! LOL
I really need to stay off ebay!!! Here I'm trying to find a wagon, and I end up spending money on a hatchback! LOL
im sure with all the parts you have you could make it run again no?
...Actually it's an addiction... :D Congratulations on your latest conquest! I was looking at that one (not to buy-where'd I put it!?) a few days ago. I'm glad you rescued her. Now you have a Runabout. I LOOOOOVE mine! It's so convenient on shopping days.
Too bad you all aren't coming down this way, then you'd get to meet my wagon. Then the craving would be too much, next thing you know... ANOTHER PINTO! A wagon, maybe... ;)
Congrats Kim, glad to see your still trying to corner the Pinto marketplace-HAH. I too just found a wagon and will be picking it up next week on the 11th in Los Angeles. Happens to be my B-Day also, what a nice gift!! I've been looking for over 2 years for that perfect pre-75 wagon (no smog) and finally found a 1974 that fits the bill. I'll post photos when I get it home. Having fun in Morgan Hill, CA Joe
You'll be posting pictures of your new wagon, right Joe? :D

yes this is a terrible addiction. right now i can barely afford mine but at the same time i am trying to figure out a way to buy the 77 Rally car that my buddy has. it has bad floors and possibly some frame rot. the is ok with me as i am wanting interior panels and pieces, all the rally stuff and the rally wheels. If I do get it the rally wheels and dash and extra gauges will be for sale. BUT NOT the steering column or wheel... MINE :hypno:
I just took my car out after a couple of years working on it and two major set backs and I am here to tell you that all that are still working on your cars, KEEP GOING!! IT WILL DEFINATELY BE WORTH IT!

Rockauto, EBAY, P-S-T, POR-15, Fred, and Green Sales packages have all showed up at my door. The guys at Autozone are starting to recognize me. Hey Pintogirl! Man i was really wanting to pull that down but i just couldnt justify it. I have NO place to store it and even less money to get her running. SO i was really hoping that someone would buy it. Was really a tug at my "disease Center" of my brain as well. Heck im only 25 miles from it over in SUNLAND,ca. Well im glad it went to a good person!
Kim,
I see a yellow tag on a plate that starts with the number "5". Hopefully the car has current registration??? If so and the Pink is missing the registered owner should just be able to reapply for a Pink slip and then transfer the car to you.
Sadly as you likely know California requires back payment for all unregistered years - with fines. I think it goes back for 7 years. So, you can buy a Pinto last registered in 2002 for say..., a Stinking Dollar and have to pay the DMV (with the fee increases) hundreds if not into the thousands of dollars to get the car registered.
EVERYONE, if your not going to register your car, NON-OP it!
I know "hubby" is in the towing business so he probably knows, but be careful with shippers. They will low ball a quote then holding you under contract for 30 days never getting your car until you agree to more money.
They charge extra if the car doesn't run. And..., Oh..., it did run, but THEY didn't close the door tight and the battery went dead. Ohhhh well..., an extra $175 because the car didn't start!!!
I bit the bullet and paid $425 to U-haul my car home. While even there I panicked about getting a good truck (I did)I did not have any surprises.
Tom
Tom I am almost positive a new owner of vehicle does not need to pay back regs. + penalty, only the last owner would need to if they were going to register. Fred :)
Yah, I know about the reg fees and all. I'm not to worried about it, because it will most likely be a part car! Just depends on what it looks like in person I guess! LOL
As far a shippers, we using a guy that parks his truck down the street from our house. We keep an eye on his truck and car when he is gone! I went to pay him yesterday and he told me to keep it till he gets back with the car!! He also knows there is no engine in this car, so it will have to be pushed or pulled up on his trailer! So that shouldn't be a problem either! I probably wouldn't have bought the car if this guy couldn't go get it! I can't get hubby to take off work long enough to go get these cars for me! LOL
On that note, hubby is going to start working on a flat bed tow truck that we have had for several years. He wants to get it all fixed up, new paint job, new/used motor with a/c and automatic tranny, so I will be able to go get the cars as I find them! LOL I think I will name it Pinto's 'r' us!! LOL Or maybe Have Pinto, We'll Haul! LOL

Nope Fred, you would be wrong about that! The fees go with the car not the PO! That's great CA for ya!!! Only way to get out of the accumulated back fees, is to have the car junked, then revived. Bad thing with that is you will have a salvage title and have to get brake and light inspection!
Oh well to bad for you guys. AZ doesn't do that. You want me to get plates for you. Fred :)

Oh, Blu, I am enamored of you at this point - your husband will be a lucky man. My wife hates my car, she can't understand why I put a dime into it, and refuses to ever be seen in it. She wants me to sell it and buy a Maverick. This sad behavior is rubbing off on my 10 year old boy, who says things like "I don't know why you like Pintos, Dad."
Help!!

oh my be still my heart could this be the perfect woman? or just another impostor. I know how you women are.
Fred,
Kim is correct. The fine in California is the registration cost for EACH AND EVERY YEAR MISSED (up to seven years I believe) PLUS a 160% fine.
So, take my Pinto as an example. Arnie just increased registration fees ($73 in the Pinto's case). If I parked it for seven year, but never put it on non-op it would cost me:
$73 (base fee) plus $117 (fine) = $190 X 7 years = $1330 to register the car!!!
And that wouldn't even include the $73 for the current year!
Or, I could have paid a one time $18 fee to non-op the car until it is registered again.
Basically you are guilty with no recourse to prove your innocent. The DMV assumes that any car not registered was still driven on the highway and therefore subject to fees and fines.
A guy such as yourself "may" be able to "laundry" the car into Arizona to abate the California fines. Then re-register it into California off the clean Arizona registration. It all depends on the State.
In 1995 I was given a '61 Corvair station wagon. It was driven from Michigan to California in 1972, parked and never registered. I was able to put it in my name for minimal cost because it lacked a California record, it was like it just came into the state. This was 1995 so things might have changed.
Thankfully my '61 Corvair SW, '63 Rambler American, '65 Sunbeam Tiger and my '73 Datsun 510 are all on non-op. Sadly my '66 Volvo 544 didn't fair as well. In years prior you had to non-op every year. My wife missed that one and the car "absorbed" too much cost.
Between needing to pass smog and those "late" fees I'm sure it accounts for a significant amount of viable (or collector) cars winding up in the junk yard.
Tom

Reminds me of a pinto story.
It was my birthday came down stairs expecting a happy birthday, but the wife just gave me a grumpy good morning. Then the kids came down but it was the same thing. Went to work and the secretary said good morning boss and happy birthday. That made me feel better. Then later she said why dont we go to lunch
in the pinto that is such a sexy car. So we did and had a nice lunch, on the way back she said why dont we stop by my apartment on the way home, nervously i said ok. We got their and she said excuse me for a minute i am going in the bedroom but i will be rite back. A few minutes later she came back in carrying a big cake followed by my wife and kids. I was very shocked as i sat their naked. I fired my secretary.

That cracked windshield alone is enough to scare me away from fixing it.
The lack of Pintos in these hills is enough to keep this disease cold turkey in me.
Of course, if some cruel person in the Sioux City or Omaha area would what to sell a cheap square head light Pinto....
It never ceases to amaze me how good cars look - until the camera moves in. I remember my car looking like a #7 out of 10 on the Ebay ad. When I first saw it in person I had a sunken feeling. It was more like a #3 of 10. A few weeks after I got it Pintony sent me pictures someone took for him who saw the car prior to my purchasing it. Those pictures were accurate.
On the other hand, a good wash, rub out and wax, while it didn't removed the problem areas, it made the good parts of the car pretty good. Good enough to put a smile on my face.

Haha. You guys with the rumbly Pintos are giving your girl-wooing secrets away...
No I am not an imposter. I have loved Pintos since I was a very small child. In fact I asked MY parents "Why can't we get a Pinto?" I like Mavericks ok but the Pinto wins hooves down.
No worries about fistfights over me. I'm homely and er robust. Yeah, robust. :P You guys will be fighting to escape me. ;D
Hey Becky... Come sit in my "rumbly Pinto.
I have a friend of mine that hates the car, but her son likes it alot. One day I decided to take him somewhere in it. Boy, she wasn't happy about that... Taking him in that deathtrap of a car. Can't say I blame her, knowing what I know now about the bad brakes & tranny. Oh well, he is still alive so it's all good ;D
Forgot to mention...
My name is Matt, and I am a Pintoholic, and proud of it dangit!! So nobody try to change me! ;D Loved them ever since I was a kid & when the 77 squire wagon family car died I wanted my parents to get a 1980 wagon to replace it. They refused, as they wanted a car other than a Pinto. They bought a Plymouth Reliant. Woulda been better off buying the Pinto wagon.
Are you trying to seduce me Matt? ;D
I have two somewhat rumbly Pintos but they do nothing for the libido. However, my heart swells every time my eyes fall upon either one of my Pinto babies and even the mechanic next door remarked that my eyes shone with the passion of having a car I love. He saw that the day Wildfire was towed here. :)

...or he might just declare the The Civil War II. Remember, Ohio was a Yankee state. Better don your blue uniform and fix bayonet. ;D
Nah... I prefer scarlet & gray.. O-H!! I-O!!
careful, you'll confuse Robert. ??? :D ;)
PG, Yes my car is really a 78 with 76 light covers. I am interested in the valance for a crazy idea of moding it to fit my car so I can use a different style bumper or no bumper at all. I have always loved the look of the 71-73 without a bumper. Yes I am crazy but you already knew that!!
I agree with hotrodpinto, ive been doing that for years having my parts sent to where i work.Saved my marriage, least i like to think so anyway lol

Hmmm, I get sick and Matty makes his move. Sounds like a soapopera.
I am a true Country boy so it's hubcaps and pulled pork at 20 paces, Yall!!!!!
Did I hear Food fight!? ;D Anyway, we're not wasting pulled pork on bombardments, unless we're talking bombarding the ol' tummy! :)
'xactly, pork till you pop off hubcaps. Winner gets to dance with Blu at the 2011 party! :surprised:
Ahh, is that punishment or reward? ??? :P ;D
Depends if you can waltz or disco :lost: :look: :rolleye:
