Might be able to pick up a late 80's one from a Mustang really really cheap. It has the fuel injection stuff, but not the computer and harness. I would be swapping the whole engine.
I was reading the thread on page 2 about this swap and have a couple of questions.
Other than hood clearance, is there any other clearance issues with the non-turbo? Some of the remarks there got me confused, since some were turbo and some weren't.
Will my current transmission (probably C3) bolt up to this?
Do I need to do anything to the gas tank? My car already has the 2 lines. I understand about the electric fuel pump, does it have to be internal to the tank, or will an external one be ok?
Adding an oxygen sensor shouldn't be a big deal either, I wouldn't think.
Anything else to look out for? I know I would have to get the computer and wiring harness, but that doesn't seem like it would be a huge problem.
I am going to be pulling the current engine out anyway to work on the engine compartment. Was thinking about going with a V8, but I don't think the money will be available for that, plus I like having the room under the hood of a 4 cylinder. Plus the gas mileage. And I really want efi. Much better to deal with than carbs, for reliability and gas mileage, imho. I really don't want a turbo.
And I wouldn't have to worry about engine mounts, radiators, headers, all that fun stuff involved with swapping to a V8 in a car that never had that option.
thanks,
Russ
