Sealing rear glass on a station wagon
« on: January 01, 2011, 05:01:45 PM »
I'm just about ready to install the rear defrost glass on Brownie!

The glass and gasket I am using came from a 78 station wagon I helped to part out last summer. I was able to push the glass with the gasket still on it, out of the tailgate window frame without any tearing.

I cleaned the gasket thoroughly with dish water, making sure to remove any and all dirt. It is pretty much a new gasket again, pliable in all areas to!

Now I did notice that there was some type of butyl rubber sealant stuff or something on the bottom corners of the glass (after removing from the gasket). Should I get some windshield sealant and pump it in along the bottom of the glass in the gasket, as well as up the sides about 5-6 inches?

I just don't want it to leak like the factory gasket on the car is right now.

All sealant(s) will be applied after the glass is installed on the car, of coarse.
