gas gague hook up

need help for gas gauge  dont have wires  from cluster  can i run to tank to gauge on cluster  dont know colors of wires from gauge on cluster been cut by other  owner or can i use sun pro gauge and run  seperate wires my spelling ANT TO GOOD.......... . THANKS  BO  76 PINTO
