AACA Eastern Division Fall Meet at Hershey, PA, 10/9/2004
« on: October 19, 2004, 11:23:27 AM »
The actual event ran October 6th through 9th, 2004, with the big car show on Saturday the 9th. We brought our '73 Pinto Squire down and showed it in Class #27J ("Production Vehicles, including Ford Thunderbird, 1972 through 1973"). We had it entered as "do not judge," just to be there and have fun w/o pressure. I took regular (conventional film) photos, and am still waiting for them back from the developer, but will try and post one or two when I'm able to show the scene. I noticed somebody already posted a photo of the '73 Vega that was in our class, at the AACA Photo Forum (URL: http://www.aaca.org/photopost/ and here's the actual shot: http://www.aaca.org/photopost/data/541/8196P9080047x.jpg?1088), but none of our beautiful Pinto! (have to remedy that when I get the chance). I did not see any other Pintos there, but I believe there was also a Gremlin in our class. In all, it was a very exciting day, and we got *a lot* of spectator feedback (most of it positive, even!)! We are long-time AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) members, and would like to pass along the word that it's a good organization. Visit them online at: http://www.aaca.org/

Happy Pinto-ing,
Steve from Connecticut Pinto Registry

Hey-ho, been having some problems accessing fordpinto.com lately, and ended up re-registering, with a new handle, etc., but it's still me, Steve from CT Pinto Registry (http://members.aol.com/cgearannex/CPR.html), located in Stony Creek, CT.

The AACA web site finally did approve the four shots I posted at their Photo Post area (http://www.aaca.org/photopost/), documenting our '73 Pinto Squire participating at the AACA Hershey event in October--scroll down to the "Hershey 2004" folder (http://www.aaca.org/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=541&password=); I think you  have to go to page 2 now, since later photos have since been added.

Anyway, glad to be back, and hope to participate more in the future...

Also meant to add...

A *Volkswagen* enthusiast web site has a very nice collection of Hershey 2004 car show photos...and our *Pinto* made it in there(!) Let's see--this link SHOULD take you to the last "miscellaneous" thumbnails page of their Hershey '04 photos collection. Looks like we're sitting in the car getting ready to go?:

Thanks to assistance from Scott, I'm back under my former handle (stevefromcpr)--thanks again Scott.

Yes, our '73 is "that one" from ebay, and my wife could not resist it. We had it trucked from Oregon to CT in March of this year. Even though it's very original and low miles (still under 20k), it still needed a pretty good amount of work, which was accomplished over most of the summer, and now it's finally fully driveable and reliable.

On the fire extinguisher at Hershey, AACA national meets require you to have a fire extinguisher with the car, and many people kind of stick them under their front tire like that, so that they're readily visible to the judges (which we complied with, even though we had our car entered as "do not judge" in the show).

And the other thing I need to thank Scott and fordpinto.com for here is the heads-up about the Collectible Automobile Pinto feature, for which we had our car photo'd a couple of months back, and as per the issue that just arrived in yesterday's mail (Jan/Feb '05 issue, I think--sorry, don't have it in front of me right now...), we did indeed make the publication. VERY COOL! The C.A. story looks extremely detailed, and I'm looking forward to reading it!

Thanks and Happy Pinto Thanksgiving everyone,

Steve
