Hi,
Being relatively new here I haven't amassed a significant amount of Pinto parts. That said, I incorrectly purchased a set of 1979 or 1980 clutch/brake pedals for my 1973 Pinto. I'm just curious if anyone going to Knott's would have, and be willing to swap my late model pedals (they're the ones with the brake pedal pad at an angle) for a set (both clutch and brake) that will fit an early model, 1973 Pinto. While I didn't get the actual firewall to steering column structure they mount to, I did get most everything associated with mine when I removed them.
Thanks, Tom

You also need to know if the brake pedal is for a car with power brakes.
I have never had an issue with the underdash brackets when I swapping out pedals. All the ones I have worked with had all the holes to do the swap including power or manual brakes.

Guys give me information. I have a 78 hatch with automatic I am going to instal manual shift and it does have brake booster. I am going to Knott's. I have a 72 hatch with man. pedals. So if I get time to pull, can I use youre 79 pedals. Thanks Fred reply. :)
Fred,
I'm not sure if the car had a booster or not. It was an ESS optioned car. Maybe the booster is standard in that package??? While I can't say for sure, on most cars the booster issue is the actuator rod, not the pedals. I can't confirm that for the Pinto though.
Hopefully this will work out to each of our mutual interest. I can measure the rotating pin to brake hole distance (or any other practical measurement) if that will help.
Tom
An easy way to tell: If the distance between the mount pivot and the push rod mount on the brake pedal is closer than the distance between the cable mount and the pivot on the clutch pedal its a manual brake pedal.
Bill
We need more help because I measured both at 2 in.. Fred :)

Hello Tom,
You do not need the structure all you need is the pedals and rod that is on the clutch.

Pintony,
Thanks, yes I knew that. I mentioned it so that no one would be expecting it if I am able to swing a trade.
Tom
Fred,
I measure 4" from the center of the brake pivot bolt to the center of brake rod pivot pin.
I measure 2-5/8" from the center of the clutch pivot bolt to the center to the center of the clutch cable pivot.
Tom
Hi Pintony so this means I can still use 72 man. pedals in the 78 automatic with brake booster. Reply thanks Fred :)
Hi Tom, I will use calipers on it friday so I can get acurate measurement. Then I will get back with you later. I am going to check 78 to, we will get this figured out. Fred :accident: hate that when that happens.

Sorry Fred,
I do not have any post 73 Pintos so you will have to rely on other members knowledge for your 78 Pinto question.

He said he had pedals out of a later car, that is what I gave the details for.

Now you know which brake pedal you have.

Bill, thanks for hunting up the post (picture). OK, my brake petal is like the one on the right in the picture. Obviously my petal is for a 4 speed so the pad area is smaller. The distance measures 4" for the pivot to pin centers (which is longer than the distance of the clutch pivot to pin distance).
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that confirms that I do have booster petals which is what Fred wants.
Fred, does this sound like a "done deal?"
By the way your question to Pintony regarding '72 petals in a 78 car. I can definately tell you the answer is NO! The mount is completely different. If that were the case I wouldn't be looking to swap in the first place. Someone else also confirmed this to me when I mentioned were I got the petals (from a 79-80 Pinto) and I was intending to use them on my '73 car.
Tom
Tom look's like bill is right. I pulled pedal's both from 72 man. and 78 automatic with boost. The meas. are 72 clutch 2" brake 1 13/16 " . On 78 4" and it mounts at top with about 3/8" bolt. Tunnel running for and aft 72 a little over 2" wide. 78 31/4" wide so it's a done deal . Give me a call so we know how to meet up. Fred 760-665-2316. :) My front room is starting to look like a pinto junkyard.
