I have a 1980 ford pinto pony. it needs transmission work as i believe it has lost 1st and second gear.
need to know what kind of transmission i have, and what would be the cheapest solution to fix it?
Thanks
Trent
I have the one out of my 79. Shifter is a bit worn you can have it if you want it located in wyo zip 82601
IIRC the 4spd in the Pinto carries the designation SROD.

Hello Trent,
Look on your drivers door body near the striker post there should be a sticker.
Where the sticker says TRANS. there should be a letter.
IF the letter is W then you have a C4 automatic and if your letter V you have a C3 tranny.
Not sure what the letter is for a Manual trans But is considered the Hummer 4spd.
Find a suitable replacement from the breakers yard is my advise...
From Pintony
I think Tony meant to say the code for a C3 is " V " not "W". The codes for a manual trans are " 5 " or " E "
if the trans oil pan has 11 bolts, its a c4. if it has 13 or so, its a c3. or is it the other way around?

You were correct the first time.
I don't think he stated if it's an auto or manual.....
