Title: Headliner Removal
Post by: r4pinto on January 06, 2008, 10:41:26 AM
I gotta run a wire to the map light for it to work, so I need to remove the headliner. How do I do it? Couldn't find it in the book.

The PROPER way to remove it requires the windshield to be removed, and the q-glass if they are not the 'pop-out' style.

The liner is tucked under the gaskets for the windshield, q-glass and hatch, it has hooked plates everywhere else where it ends, and it has a series of metal rods from side to side. The rods are different lengths, so you need to keep them in order.

I have found it impossible to remove a headliner without destroying it.

There are videos available that show you how to do it.

You should be able to snake a wire up there, but I think the map light has a different mount bracket that needs to go under the liner.

I have used vinyl dye to change the headliner color without removing it.

Thanks for the info Bill

I know what you're saying about the map light bracket. It took me well over a year to find one that would work, but I found one on a Ford Fairmont that is gonna work perfectly after I modified it some.

The headliner has quite a bt of stitching torn so I was gonna replace it, but for now I'll just fix it. The windshield seal is cracking so I'm gonna have to replace it but not right now.

You need a steam gun to get all the wrinkles and make the liner nice and tight.

That's if you want to do it right.
