You are welcome to swing by Festus MO.  When you get in to Oklahoma, 44 turns in to a toll road, you will have to pay a few bucks. When you get to Williams Arizona stop in at Rod's Steak house, it is awesome and one of my favorite places. You should have a great time.

Tony,

I am in Tulsa OK, 100 miles into OK, about 450 miles from you. Would love to buy you dinner. I met you in Pigeon Forge. I was the guy who was traveling home to OK with my son from VA. Stopped by and met the group Saturday AM in the rain.
I was going to do Anaheim this year but have chosen to go to PA in June. You making that trip?
As the time nears, let's touch base again.

Hello Dave,
Yes I remember meeting you and your son in P.F..
Yes I will be going to Carlisle June 2-4.
In my travels I figure an average of 50 miles pr. hr. so I would be near you about 5-6PM on thursday the 6th of april.
I was just crunching some numbers...
A show I went to about 80 miles away last year and I ran out of fuel before I got home.
As many know I my tank was damaged and I am not getting a full load of fuel.
I will be installing a new fuel tank before I go to L.A. so I can get the full 11 gallons of fuel.
Even then I can only run 200 miles before stopping for gas.

Tony, sounds great. I drove Pinto's in the '70's and I know what you mean about 200 miles per tank! I did field service work and drove about 35,000 miiles a year. I had to fill up every day, sometimes twice, but at that time I could fill up for $3.00!
I was going to post back and ask you if you were drivng your Pinto, sounds like you are. That's awesome. I wish I had the time to drive on out to LA with you. I am wanting to keep the miles off of my Original 74 sedan and have purchased an enclosed car hauler and Dodge Ram to tow it. A little overkill, but hey, it's worth it.
I have made probably 4 trips to CA in my Pinto's in their day. Limped a '72 wagon all the way home from San Francisco on three cylinders, packed with wife, 2 kiddo's and two weeks luggage. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
I just might look at this trip. Now that I know you are driving, it would be a blast to travel the rest of the way out there with you.
More later,

Dave

Hello Dave,
WOW! That would be great to have a 2/3 CONVOY!!!!
Do we have a 3rd to make the trip out there????

I know what you mean about keeping the milage off your original Pintos.
I would not drive my lime green that far.
I drive lime green to springfield every year about 120. miles round trip.
That is about as far as I would go W/O a trailer
Keep me posted.

Hi Pintony!  Just wishing you good luck on this trip.  It should be an amazing one what with driving your pinto half way cross country.  That just has to be fun. I'll be looking forward to meeting you in April.  There just may be three purple pintos at the show this year.  That alone is a sight.  Have fun and be safe (take care of that car).  ;D ~"Sir Hugh"

  :fastcar:
Hey pintony!
Are you going to put a 'bra' on the front of the purple ? Without it id wonder what might happen to the paint from all the bugs and lil rocks that seem to get attracted to nice paint.
Anyways its going to be a hell of a trip! I once made a trip with an ex girlfriend to Oklahoma from hemet,Cali and we did it in 24 or so hours . Just stopping for gas and food. Wont do that again though! lol!
Well wish i could make it out to see you but our new baby girl is due in early to mid march, so I'm not sure if i can con the wife to go see cars a month after the birth. :hypno:
ON a different note , you might see my boss there, he owns a Race Capri. Its Awesome. Color silver, with a fender flare 'kit' and full road race suspension. His name is Allen. you might meet him. I told him about you and your "Purple Pinto" He thought it sounded cool.

Anyways blessings on your trip and may it be a smooth one!

Hello California members,
I will be removing my BIG Speaker box to allow more trunk space and some tools "That since I'm bringing them I'm sure I wont need"
And a spare tire... That I hope I wont need!!!!!
My plans are to really rough it as I will only be bringing a pillow and bed-roll to sleep.
I will play the rest by ear.
I may go to the Ford dealer to see if they have the stuff you see on the new cars when transported to protect the paint?

Important subject!
Does anyone need parts???
OK!!! :stop: before you start!!!!... I'm not driving to Ca. with a Pinto rear 1/4 on my roof!!!!
But if there are parts that you need? It could off-set some of my fuel bill.
Anybody need a complete NOS Pinto battery tray assy????? ;D ;D ;D
Where am I staying????
I am open to offers if someone has an extra couch in their back yard to sleep on. ;D
I hope your dog dosen't snore too loud!
BUT you have to have room in your Garage because I'm not leaving my pinto on the street!!! ;D

Hey Pintopower,
I'll call you when the show gets closer to get address for 6:30 am at you house day of show.

More Later...

Hmm parts huh??
Weeeelll i need a complete rear quarter for my um Ohh just kidding.
Im actually needing a nos 71-73 front rotor. I have one, but its the last item i need to make the braking system ALL NEW again. And i was hoping to get a matching one to the nos one i have.
And well ive been tossing the idea around of getting them from ebay but ill give you a shot instead, Do you have a Set of remote side mirrors? Used would be fine if they had all the hardware and gaskets in decent shape and good mirror glass. I know those are pricey NOS. I prob woulnt be able to afford them if you had Nos anyways. I thought id ask.

Hello 71hotrodpinto,
:sorry:I do not have any NOS FORD Pinto front rotors.
How much are they asking on ebay?
I do have NOS sports mirrors.
"I think" the set I have is the early set W/ manual RH mirror
I do have used mirrors too.
I'll dig them out and make sure thay are in working order.
Do you want the remote RHS mirror? CUZ that is all I have used.
For anyone interested I have a SET of 4 NOS Ford 13" chrome rings for the ralley wheels.

I live a few miles away from Knotts in Anaheim and will be attending the show as well. I've got a sleeper couch you are more than welcome to. If you happen to show up on Friday, you can stay that night as well. I'll be meeting up with pintopower and the others on Sunday morning for breakfast and then head to the show. Let me know if I can be of any help! Did you say you have an NOS battery tray? Let me know and the price. Take care! Looking forward to meeting you!

Hey 79pannel,
Thank you for your offer.
I think everyone is meeting at pintopowers house.
That is where i'll be staying while not at the show.
As long as my invitation stays good with him.
Like I said before I will be leaving thursday the 6th.
Yahoo maps say 28hours of transit time.
I do not think I will make that good of time on my trip.
I'm thinking about stopping in tulsa OK. to meet up with Dave AKA Original74.
If my timming is right.
I do not see any way that I will get there anysooner than Saturday.
I'll know more as the show gets closer.
Lots to do before then.
My transmission is still out because of not having money for a HiPo clutch.
I'm thinking of installing a stock unit from my NOS Pinto stuff and just buying a stock 87 mustang plate for now.
It was nice for the last 3 days But NOW it is back to winter for a few days.
My List.
Money
NEW W/S and NEW gasket installed. Time +0$
NEW clutch and get my trans back in. Time +300$
Install the tank from my 73 to replace the damaged tank that is in there now. Time+0$

Hello Sir Hugh,
Somehow I missed this post and I feel bad for not responding.
Thank you for the vote of confidence!
Yes... Still over a month away and I'm anxious to get working on my P.P.
A buyer for bumpers is coming tomorrow. Hopefully that money will pay for most of my clutch.
Work is going much better as it always picks-up when tax checks start ariving. :) :) :)
I can not wait to set out for California.
I wanted to take my P.P. to Mount Rushmore this year to hopefully get my Pinto with the greatest backdrop ever. Maybe next year????? Actually that trip was planned for 2000 but I sheared the flywheel just before I left.
Lots to do... I may pull out my spare tank tomorrow to see what it looks like.
If all is OK I may drop my damaged tank to get ready for the swap.
I have a NEW sender so I hope the guage will read accurate after the swap.
I was planning on putting that tank in my pangra.
Anybody??? I need an early tank If you see a nice one hang on to it.
I will buy or swap NOS parts
See you at the Knotts!!!!

My clutch should be here by Next fFriday.
Hopefully it will be warm and I can get started putting the tranny back in my Purple Pinto.

Hello Group,
I have my new fuel tank in and just finished filling NO LEAKS!!! ;D I installed a NEW filter right near the tank so I should be OK for that part.

Still waiting for a 70+ deg. day for the Windshield install.

New bootys installed on the rack & pinnion .

Now i'm having throttle cable problems that I hope to have fixed by Saturday.
I need to install a different kind of return spring.
One that pulls the throttle closed not pushes like I have now.

My P.P. seems to be running good.
Transmission seems a little tight, But I guess that is to be expected for a freshly rebuilt tranny.

I need to to buy a grease gun to lube the ball joints.$?

Money problems are no longer a concern. :drunk:
I have been working overtime and the money is good!

I have tried to contact pintopower a few times I hope everything is OK with him.
Only 20 days before I leave to California.

Hey Pintony!

Brien here! If push comes to shove, you can always use me for a backup. I'm up in the air on whether I will be able to go afterall. My company is moving to a new location. The department I work in runs a data center and we may be moving the servers over the same weekend as the Ford show. Things keep getting pushed back for one reason or another, so I'm actually hoping there is some snag and we don't have to move the servers that weekend. We'll see!!

Looks awesome Tony! Can't wait to see this car when you travel through OK in a few weeks.

Question, for my 76 project Turbo swap, wanting the safety of a fuel cell. All I can find are top fill, which means one would open the rear hatch and fill up from within the passenger compartment. I don't like that idea. Ever heard of a side fill fuel cell? Or a way to do a bladder or foam in the current tank to make it safer? I do have the recall kit to install on it, but looking for more safety. Probably should not be so anal about it, what are the thoughts of those of you out there who daily drive Pinto's with stock gas tank setup?

Sorry Tony, probably need to move this to another thread, just thought you might have experience with my question.

****Just found this topic in the FAQ section****

See you soon.

Hello Original 74, Sir Hugh & 79 Pannel,
Thank you for the THUMBS-UP. :)
Lots of hard work. Still have to get my Valve cover oil problem fixed.
There is oil everywhere from the Spearco valve cover.
I may go out and pull it off later. It needs a baffel welded in where the oil fill tube is.
OH and + I cracked it installing the bolts.
I am going to weld up the holes in the tower where the bolts go in from the side.
They are totally un-nessissary.
Still waiting on a warm day for the W/S install.
IF I do not get the warm day I need I will call a glass shop to install my NEW W/S and Gasket.
I also need to install the NEW horns I bought and MAYBE install the new steering wheel.
I would like to have the Dash pad recovered but that will probally have to wait.

Hey Pintony, about the cracked dash pad, a good solution to just hide it is a fabric dash cover.  Thats what we use when we can't replace them. They serve many uses: a nice clean look, a means of hiding nasty cracks, and they continue to protect what is still left of the dash.  Just a tip.  See you soon! ;D

After re-sealing my Spearco cam-cover and cracking the front R.H corner I found out that it was leaking really bad out the oil filler tube. I have welded the holes up in the tower and welded a baffel in the top to help keep the oil where it belongs.

Heh, that's what my radiator looks like! Well, yours is shinier atm. Do they make a high temp clearcoat or some way of keeping brass from oxidising?

Paint your radiator cap red to match your block, it's not shiny enough.

Hey Pintony!!!
Please tell me you traveling plans. It seems you will be going through oklahoma(tulsa--OK). are you going to connect up with Original74??? Depending on your shedule I may be able to pop down that way. As not to put you in a corner, approxamate timing will do.
                                                                                     Keep me informed.

Hello Group,
8 days left until I leave for California.
Where did the time go???
The P.P. is ready except for a few tweeks and still the windshield gasket remains.
No major issues at this time.
My plans are to leave thursday at 8:00 am but I want to leave wednesday at 8:00 am
Work is heavy right now and I'm struggling to keep up.
Last night till 9:30 really broke me down.
Oh well at least the money is good and that should not be a problem for my trip.
I plan to take it easy on the Pinto and keep the boost down to 4or5 lbs. so I can run the cheep fuel.
Too bad I do not have a lap top to send the group live photos of my trip.
Maybe I can send Brad or someone photos from my camera phone but they will not be the best.
Anyone want the job of posting the photos?
All I need is your email address.

Pintony,
I will look for the test pics. It's about 50/50 that I would be making Tulsa at this time because I don't have a tow rig for ThunderPinto yet. It's about a four hour jaunt from here. I'll be in touch.

Hello Group,
This will be my last post untill I return from California.
The P.P. is gased and ready to run.
I have lots of tools and parts so I should be OK.
Bulbs, fuses, belts, hoses clamps, gaskets,
I still have 2 trick parts that did not show in the mail but heck. I'll just have to go without them.
Hope High_horse gets the photos up for your amusement.
Thanks High_horse...

I will be stoping tomorrow night to have a steak with Original74, Dave.
Can't wait to see him again.
Looking at the weather we are in for some rain after Tulsa .
Hope I have the windshield sealed good???
Getting ready to put on a few final pieces tonight to make the trip tomorrow at 8-9:00 am.
