Title: up-grade to turbo
Post by: haj81 on July 10, 2005, 09:27:31 AM
I trashed the motor in my sand rail, it (was) the older pinto motor with the three tower head.  I don't think it would be cost effective to rebuild it, so I'm considering going to a later model turbo.  I need to hook up to a volks trans-axle, and would like to run a header.  what problems can I expect to incur?

I will take a bunch of liberties with your post. I assume you are running a 2.3 and a 74-83? vintage. And you want to run a 84-88 vintage Tbird or SVO engine??? I dont think there will be any probblems with your trans adapter. You can port an E6 turbo manifold and do almost as well as a header. are you wanting to run an EFI system or is this the old style carb type set up???

i'm looking for a quick conversion, and have some concern about all sensor hookups that I have no place to go with.  Would the old carb and intake manifold work?

II'mstill not sure "exactly what you are trying to do?? When you say you want a quick conversion are you wanting to go from EFI to carb or the other way???

He said 3 tower head, so that leads me to think it was a 2.0.  2.3's have the 4 tower heads.

As far as I know, you'll have to change your motor mounts or fab up some engine brackets to use the exsisting mounts.  You'll also have to do some minor bellhousing bolt-pattern work as the dowel pins on 2.0's and 2.3's are different sizes, and the 2 top bolts are higher up on the 2.3.
