Title: Blower Motor lead wire
Post by: STLpintoWGNguy76 on October 26, 2010, 09:48:34 AM
I had to replace the heater core and blower motor in my 1980 Pinto Wagon. The lead wire looped back through the firewall and was not connected to anything inside the vehicle. Is the wire supposed to loop back through the same hole that the blower motor sits in on the firewall, and what does it connect too?

I believe it's the ground for the motor since the motor is isolated from the car by the insulation between the blower body and the firewall.

I can answer half your question - I have a '76 wagon that is in mid restoration; part of the restoration was to completely dismantle, clean, and restore the heater box and components.

The answer about the wires is YES, they do loop back through the same hole; if you look at the motor mount plate, you will see a small indentation in the plate, and that is where the wires pass through. Now, on the rest of the question - not sure, because I need to reconnect mine as well and don't have a clear answer on where they go. If I figure this out soon (and I should, since the box will probably go back in within two weeks), I will let you know.

I just did the one in my '80 yesterday. The wires that come back through the hole connect to plugs in the wiring harness. At least 1 does. I think the other plugs to the resistor on the heater core. I just did it from memory, I never paid too much attention.
