Title: 7.5 inch clutch?
Post by: EP73Pinto on September 06, 2010, 01:40:10 AM
I just won a ~8 lb flywheel on eBay. The description said it takes a 7.5 inch clutch. The only place I can find a 7.5 inch Clutch is Racer Walsh and I cannot afford $679. Does anybody now where someone could find a clutch at half that price or less. The car will probably never reach 200 hp so it doesn't have to be a real high torque/hp unit. Thanks.

The factory pinto clutch is a 8 1/2 inch, I need a 7 1/2 inch. This makes it difficult to search for one because most sites search by year/make/model which doesn't give you results for aftermarket parts. Has anybody out there used a 7 1/2 inch clutch or know of a good resource for one? I'm prett sure they are used in circle track racing, but I don't know anybody from that scene.

Its very easy to redrill most flywheels. Most new ones have both bolt patterns. Any machine shop can do this.

This flywheel looks like a Cosworth 9 bolt flywheel with 6 long slots around the outside. It has a very small contact area that looks like it would only fit one size clutch. I don't think it could be drilled to take an 8 1/2 inch clutch because the clutch wouldn't have any place to hold on to.
The eBay seller says they have a resource for the 7 1/2 inch clutch assy, but they are slow to communicate. I'll post the results when I get them.
