Title: New Member..New to racing...Pinto Road Racer
Post by: pintoroadracer on April 05, 2009, 08:40:46 PM
Hello all.  I am new here.  I just purchased a Pinto Road Racer from a buddy in town.  I sold my 91 Firebird (bought it cheap and sold it for $2000 profit) and decided to buy this car.  It has the 2.3 in it and the 4 speed manual.  Roll cage installed and was a racer for several years....last being around 1995.

I worked on it all weekend and have it running.  Needed a new Holley Fuel Pump and a couple new stainless lines that were leaking fuel.  Also put a new Cam seal in and fixed a leaking radiator.  She runs good and only needs a few more items and changes to make it legal for the local asphalt road track (Motorsports Park Hastings, Hastings Nebraska).  The braked bled our okay and the bias valve works too.  Just need to turn them rotors and repack the bearings.

I am waiting for the repair manual to arrive this coming week.  Had some questions on timing and what not.  It has a MSD box for ignition and I am unsure where to set the timing at.  I think I am around 15 deg. btdc at the moment.

I am also curious on the best resource for parts, of course, like we all are here I imagine.  Need some new bushings and things.  Any info helpful.

BTW, I am 34 years old and this is my first "racecar".  Been wanting to race since I was a wee pup but never had the money or chance (plus Dad and Mom thought I was nuts as it wasn't a natural thing around our little farm)  Well, the chance came to me and the money will just have to trickle in like always.  My boss has an 500 hp 1985 camaro and has raced over 20+ years, so I have good help on that end as far as setups go.  The oher nice thing is we work in an auto repair shop (he owns it) so we have a great place to work on the cars and I can get parts for cost if NAPA or ADVANCE has the ability to get them for me.

That is it for now.  Cant wait to meet you all and I will try to get some pics up soon.

Barry

Welcome to PCCA. Nice to see another road race Pinto. I have a 73 Pinto that road raced from 76 to sometime in the mid 80's in the ICSCC. (International Confrience of Sports Car Clubs). It was class champion 3 times with 3 different drivers. I auto-x it now in SCCA E Prepaired. Search my posts to see pix and get details on the mods. I'm having a blast beating Honda's and VW's. Talk to you later.

EP73! Did you ever post or E-mail me the picture of the drivers side of the panahard rod. I talked to you a while back about it. Glad to hear your doing good against the ricers. When are you going to try hill climbs with the group out of your area?  Dick Elliott

Finally got the Pinto ready for the track and FINALLY got a pic of it.  It ran great and had no issues.  Spent about 2 hours on the 2.1 mile track.

My buddy took about 225 pics with his good camera.  I am going to get the DVD today and will sort out some good on track shots for you guys.

What's going on with this car?  Have you posted pics?  I have a Pinto that needs circle track mods to be reversed, and will be testing it out in April.
