any guess
what am i up to now
those in the know wait for a few guess first
You are making a trailer out of it.
Bill
well that was no fun
yes i plan on making a tear drop pinto. for camping to be towed by my 79 wagon im working on lightening the car first i hafta get the tung weight down to about 150-200 lb
im at about 250-300 right now but im planing on removing the door bars and putting plexi glass window. hoping to keep windows operable.
i may end up moving the axle 3" forward to do so. but fist is cut cut cut.
im cutting out the tunnel and making it flat and putting in a bed at the hight of the back seat bottom mounting bar.
i plan on cutting out the rear (spare tire and gas tank) to build a box below the deck hight for the fresh water, ice chest and battery. between the bed and kitchen above the axle will be storage cabinets and above ice box will have a stove and counter space that slides out and has collapsible legs. The hatch will have a another piece hinged to it at the bottom. the same size as hatch with collapsible leg/'s for awning.
but first make it so it can be toad
What year is that car ?
was 1973 hatch ac car
So why isn't Tony here posting " Just say NO to Pinto Trailers" ?
because people tend not to put V8's in Pinto Trailers
FrankBoss
Oh I see, so its just the " V8 " part that offends ?
this just had to much rust to bother with making nice see pic and there is one more spot about the same size but it is still very solid.

 Only if he doesn't finish it!!
this should only take 3 weeks to be able to be used but much much more time to be at the show ready stage i plan to first focus on the frame work then the inside then it is will be operable. then it will be put to the side for the 74 turbo after that is done i will go back to tackle body and paint but it will most likely get a camo temp paint
that would be more work when i went to Finnish it out
well final paint will most likely be the pinto lime green or a brown. but that is most likely more than a year away but the camo in 3-4 weeks but im playing this by buy ear. im in cut and weld stage. i dont want to have it fold in half on the first good bump. but im also trying to cut as much off the car that i can. i also tried to drill out the door bars but they did not come out. i drilled the 4 spot welds on ether end but they dont move. i hafta get the door bars out there good for about 60lb and the window for another 40 lb. losing the weight will help with the structural stress.
now to the point im going to cut out the tunnel and patch it but how much will this weaken the body. how much dose the tunnel & fire wall support how can i get the door bars out.
im thinking of cutting more than i did im wondering if i cut in front of the door support if it will stay together
cut cut cut. now the floor wont support my wight. time to brace
more piics here

any suggestions. any one
Why do you want it to be "toad"...when it can be "towed"?? :D
milti play on words. yes towed it as in to pull but final paint will most likely be lime green pinto color. much like a frog's color and its use is to go camping in the woods. were it is not uncommon to find a toad's. just some slite humor for my own enjoyment . thanx for asking though. maybe some one els will see my lame sense of humor
I thought it was called "Toad" because with the nose cut off the rust bubbling paint and such, it does in fact look like a "Toad". There is something kind of rewarding about going after something with a sawsall isn't there!!
man its raining. i have the welder out and ready to go. just dont like using power tools in the rain if i dont HAFT to. so another day lost!!
any one have any ideas on this project
what can be cut
how to brace / support
moving the axle forward
should i make frame connectors

So I'm looking at picture 3, and I see something that looks like a 45.cal hole. were we having a difficult time with the door bars? ;D
slipped up with really big drill
That must be a really big slip up with a a really big drill. It even broke your jpeg!
Yah Brian your image isn't loading all the way...

more info about the doors
http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php/topic,10196.0.html
Cut the bottom (inside) of the cowl out of it. When I had the one from my parted and dead 76 stang II out, it must've weighed 50 or more lbs! There is a LOT of weight in those doors too, I am assuming you are trying to keep the doors functional, but it may be better just to weld the skins onto the outside of the rest of the body. If you want to lighten the whole thing a bit, try swapping the full rear diff for a straight axle out of a FWD minivan. Not sure what would fit, but could be fun to peruse the pick-a-part yards with a tape measure. It couldn't be too hard to weld spring perches on one of them.
Good luck, and have fun!

thanx for the heads up on the cowl ill worm the sawzall up first thing tomorrow.as this was a thought of mine already. i will most likely cut in front of the door hinge support bar off and build my own front this will also shorten it moving the center of gravity back about 2-3 inches. just concerned about loosing unibody strength
yah i hafta keep the door fully functional. not an option for what i want from the project, as in what it will be used for. but i am cutting the door bars out and will be getting plexi glass and making my own windows.
btw, if you do cut out the bottom of the cowl and IF it is in good shape, you may want to offer it up to the folks redoing/repairing theirs as a 'patch panel' of sorts.
well i lost some steam on this project but did pick up some plexi for the windows and have a set idea for the tong but its going to cost me money something i thought i would be able to avoid was spending money on this but as it is im going to have the tong wait i was looking for but my focas has been shifted to the pinto that is going to tow this one and getting my 74 to move under its own power and have had rash of tranys to work on. (not pintos 92 Buick 95 Toyota 91 ford pu 85 Samaria and tomorrow earthquake's mustang)
