Anyone ever hear of Spearco Performance Products?
« on: October 18, 2003, 06:32:01 PM »
Yesterday, I picked up an old Motor Trend with a Pangra on the cover (Jan 73).  The article stated that  Spearco make some aftermarket parts for the Pinto's.  I wonder if they are still around?  Does anyone have any info on them?  I will poke around on the web a little later and see what I can find.

If I'm not mistaken Spearco makes turbo accessories.

Well, I got a 1997 catalog full of Spearco intercoolers here on my messy desk.  It shows their address as 14664 Titus St.  Panorama City, CA  91402.  Tele:(818)901-7851, Fax:(818)785-4362.  Apparently, this catalog predates the "www" age.

They mainly make intercoolers for the aftermarket turbo crowd now.  They used to make their own turbo kits for popular cars, Mustangs, corvettes ect.

The article was real interested.  They compared a complete Pangara, a Porsche 914, and a 73 Pinto equipped with SPearco interior parts such as a 13" leather steering wheel, console, shifter, instrument cluster on top of the steering column with a digital tach.  They also had the seatbacks raked an extra 20 degree's by removing the latch hardware.  Suspension wise, the pinto had a Speraco Riverside suspension kit which lowered the car  7/8" in the front and 1" in the back with 3/4" front and 5/8' rear sway bars.  The kit included HD ariston shocks.  The car also had a chin spoiler.

From what research I did, Mr Spearco started the company with Carrol Shelby as a partner.  Once SHelby lost interest, Spearco bought out Shebly.  They don't seem to have a web site but it did appear that they are into Turbo stuff now (as mentioned above)  Too bad, I would like to have bought some of the parts shown in the article.

Had a set of front and rear sway bars on my 1972. The front bar mounted below the chassis close to the strut rod chassis mount , the arms ran to the lower control arms and mounted from a bracket that attached to the shock through bolt. The rear attached to spring u bolts and the arm ran forward and mounted outside the leaf springs off a bracket you mounted to the body seam line. THey worked ok and used them with the springs I got from them also.

Used this set up till Interpart came out with springs, front bar and rear Z bar. This setup was the way to go

Spearco got into turbo kits and droped the suspension stuff.
