1973 Pinto help needed

   OK,
   First off let me say that I am quite happy with my recent purchase of a 1973 red wagon. Took me forever to trailer it from Arizona. But, I wanted a near perfect car to start with.
   I need a drivers side vent window (glass) It is the window behind the drivers door.

   Second, I really want to change to a 5 lug setup on the 73. I have the rearend pretty much figured out and have access to several possible swaps.
   Now, I understand, from what I have read the I can swap spindles, rotors, and caliper mounts, but the ball joints and tie rod ends will have to be replaced..?? Is this correct?  Will the A arms from a 74 or later work on a 73, so the only thing I have to worry about is the tie rod ends.
   Can someone explain Are the rotors different from a 73 to a 74? or is it the spindles? or ???

  I hate to sound stupid, But, I am confussed


  P.S. this is where the 5 lug question comes in. I see that i can get 5 lug 9" rotors off ebay that would be a direct swap with a 74 and up pinto/ Mustang II  is this correct?

I belive there are some mustang parts that swap in. I will research and see what i can up with in years. But i think the Mustang II cobra was 5 lug and it had the same front suspesnion. so you might check that out i will see what i can find.

If you find any info on this, please share. I have a '73 wagon also that I wish to convert to 5 lug. I am willing to bet there is a way to install the 11" Granada rotors on the car. I am just wondering if the Mustang II or later Pinto spindles will bolt on. I don't mind swaping the entire front end, I just need to know if it will work. Maybe we can find some different bearings and races to allow the 11" rotors to bolt on??

Just thinkin out loud.  ???

think out loud more often. I am going to try my best (as soon as I can) to start playing with different ideas on which way I want to go with the 5 lug conversion.



  P.S.  Anyone know where I can obtain a window for my wagon???

Which window? I'm planning on converting my '74 to a panel wagon, and I have spares of the two "wing" windows and the passenger's side rear section for a wagon.

the window that I NEED is the the one right behind the drivers door. I have all the NOS hardware. Hinges and latches. I will really need this window.. Thank you in advance

I was looking at Wilwoods site, and it shows the exact same part number for  Pinto / Bobcat 1971-1980 Mustang II 1974-1978.

These guys have the complete Granada brake kit for $370 that fits a Mustang II:

Sounds cheaper than digging in the junk yard or dealing with Autozone counter guys. I'll call them and ask if the kit fits '73 Pinto spindles.  :)

I called Engineered Components and asked about their brake kits. They said the 1973 and up Pinto spindle is the same as the Mustang II spindle, so we're in luck if we want to use this kit.

The tech said the 71-72 Pinto used an entirely different spindle, so it would not work. I asked if you could put a 73 and later spindle on the early cars and he was unsure. They use the same ball joint, but he had no first hand knowledge of it fitting.

Cool deal, eh?  ;D

Yeah, I have that one. The latch is attached; all you'd have to do is screw the three screws into the post inside. What it doesn't have is the plastic inserts that snap on the "hinges" and hold the front of the window in the slots in the metal window frame.

Ok first, I will call engineering components tomorrow. If they can insure me that if thier kit does not work i can send it back. I will order it and see what happens. I will volunteer as guinee pig, and post pics and results If it works
