Rebuilding 1973 type e 4 speed manual
« on: February 14, 2023, 08:55:06 PM »
Has anyone had experience rebuilding an ea4ly 2.0 FOG 4 speed?

My 4 speed is beginning to sound a bit raspy when i decelerate  in 2nd gear

I have   a spare speed that seems to be in pretty good shape except that the input shaft seems to have a bit of wobble.... maybe 1/8" at the tip so i was thinking about replacing
The bearing.. any ideas..

May do a search on this forum. you might find something. I know parts for the fog are few and far between. Unlike the T5 there are lots of parts

Ford 4 speed type E or "rocket" gearboxes seem to be still catered for quite well in the UK, see attached image for just one parts provider, I do't think you should have to many problems to get things send over for your rebuild.

That's really common with the bearings typically used on input shafts and is not an indicator that there's anything wrong with it. Ball axle bearings do it too, even when new. It's from clearances built into the bearing itself.
