Question for the V8 builders!
« on: October 17, 2006, 07:43:24 PM »
I'm going to be rebuilding my engine this winter, and I've been thinking of installing a stroker kit. I don't know a whole lot about engine building, but with the help of a friend with a bit of experience and a few manuals, I should be able to get the job done.
Anyway,I have been told that if I plan on driving the car regularly, which I do, to not stroke to 347ci because of oil consumption and decreased reliability. Instead, I've been told  instead to stroke to 331ci.

Anyone have any input, or experience regarding stroking the 302? Is it worth the cost?

I have come across this 331 stroker kit on Ebay, and the price seems great, but I'm not familiar with any of the componants. If someone can take a look and offer any advice it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I would go for a 331, The 347's rings get bad i believe, they are meant for seldom race like life's, but i remember reading about a certain piston with the rings placed higher...maybe they're lower.. i don't know it doesn't matter but i would go for a 331..that should wake that puppy up!!!! :2fast4u:

331'S also dont requiring notching the block like 347 and the ring package is moved up alot further on the piston, THAT CAN CAUSE PISTON SLAP AND PREMATURE ring wear etc... .

The longer stroke of the 347 puts the wrist pin up in the ring lands and and contributes to oil burning and also lets the piston rock in the bore. The shorter stroke 331 keeps the wrist pin out of the rings and will rev quicker. The shorter stroke also gives a better rod stroke ratio.I personally don't feel the price of a good stroker kit is worth the money for street applications.J ust my2 cents.
