I can't answer your question directly. However, the PS on my donor T-Bird Turbo Coupe was simply cooled with  a steel piece of tubing that was run in a shape like the outline of a house and placed in front of the condenser. There were no fins or anything else to assist the cooling other than the tubing. Thus, I would conclude the cooling need is minimal and possibly worth the risk of removing it.

Mine was a non A/C power steering car that has a cooler.  It is currently not hooked up but I am planning to install it when I reassemble the car.  I have had other non A/C cars that had power steering coolers.  I don't think having A/C had anything to do with cooler vs no cooler.  I think any time you can remove heat from fluid you will prolong the life of the related components.

While we're on the topic, can someone please send me a pic of the cooler installed so I can see exactly where it is supposed to be mounted?  It's been a few years since I disassembled the car and can't remember exactly how it was mounted.

I DID SOME INVESTIGATING TODAY AND A LOT OF DIFFERENT FORD CARS HAD COOLERS ON THEM.NOT SO ON SAY GM AND CHRYSLER CARS.I AGREE ,THE COOLER THE BETTER.I ORDERD A NEW ALUMINUM FOUR SEASONS COOLER TODAY.ITS A LITTLE SMALLER AND MATCHES MY RADIATOR.AFTER ALL THE $ I HAVE INVESTED IN THE NEW RACK,PUMP AND HOSES A COOLER IS A GOOD THING.THE STOCK COOLER MOUNTS TO THE TOP OF THE RADIATOR SUPPORT ON DRIVERS SIDE AND HANGS IN FRONT OF RADIATOR.
