Pangra wastegate
« on: December 09, 2020, 08:47:27 AM »
Hey all! This is the setup on my 74 Pinto Pangra turbo. I haven't seen this style of wastegate in any pictures, is this a different kit or what??

I'm assuming that you are talking about the bulging coupler over the valve cover in the intake piping? I'm not sure what that is???, but a wastegate is usually referred to a device that bleeds exhaust off the turbine wheel. With the draw through carbureted setup if that bled off the compressor side it would vent a flammable mixture of fuel and air. I'm just going to make a guess and say it might be a one-way valve that is intended for anti backfire purposes??? It looks like you have an adjustable cam pulley!

Yes, the piece right above the camshaft. That's a good point, it could be a one way valve. Thank you!!

I am not all that knowledgeable about Pangea, but I was able to pull up a brochure from Troxel's Auto brochure website on the Huntington Ford Pangea that shows the engine...maybe you can tell from the pictures if they are the one and the same...

What I thought might be an anti backfire valve in the intake plumbing could also be a mixing chamber for the water injection. I wish someone more knowledgeable would chime in. The article referenced above shows a similar but rectangular device rather than the tapered/round device in your engine image. Click on article image to enlarge and read.
