Needed ASAP!
« on: May 02, 2004, 07:18:27 PM »
looking for the plug that does from the alternator loom to the main loom behind the carb. It has two smaller wires and a large black with orange that goes to the selenoid via 14 gauge fusable link and the main power supply back into the firewall into the car. If posible, i would like the plug, and as much of the wiring as posible including the fuseable link. Need as quickly as posible!!

Well, this may or may not help you.
The plug on my '76 V6 parts car has two large black/orange wires, a white/black wire and an orange wire coming from the alternator.  On the other side of the connector, toward the firewall, the two large wires merge into one black/orange wire, and there is a white/black and a white/blue wire.  None of this appears to have been monkeyed with in the past.
If you think you can use it, you can have it for the cost of shipping.

sounds good to me, just need from that plug to the main loom, if you trace it, it should go to a factory splice in the plastic loom wrap, then to the seliniod via a 14 gauge fusable link, and back the other way the wires go into the car through the firewall. Please undo the fusable link from the selinoid, cut the other wires as far away from that splice as you can get (at the plastic T would be great)  If you send it fed ex i will gladly cover that (my fatherinlaw will)  My name: Jeff Fichter  388 highview dr. St. Thomas Ontario Canada, postal code  N5R-5Z5  Thankyou soooo much!   Jeff  ps. alternator loom not needed, just as much as you can get from the other side of that plug.

OK.  I'll double check everything tomorrow, and if it looks good I will get it sent off tomorrow (Tuesday).
I didn't check the wires all the way back.  I just looked at it near the connector.
The loom has been "unwrapped", but I think everything is good that goes to that connector.
I live in Alaska, and FedEx does not send things inexpensively.  I have no idea what they will charge to Canada, but I would not be surprised if it is $20.  I just want to let you know.  I will send it that way if you want, however.

OK then, I'll send it FedEx.
I got the wires out of the car and they are boxed up.  The fusible link checked out okay with an ohm meter.
I cut the heavy yellow wire right where it goes through the firewall.  The other wires are cut a long way from the connector as well.
I'm off to FedEx now...

Jeff, I hope you are sitting down, and I hope your father-in-law really is loaded and has a good sense of humor.
I said before that I wouldn't be surprised if it was $20.  Now I WISH it had been $20.
For a small box that weighs .65 pounds, FedEx charged me $40.28.  That is not a typo.  FORTY dollars!
It is for this very reason I try to avoid FedEx and UPS.  It may work okay in the lower 48, but they put the screws to us here in AK, and apparently to Canadians as well.
Jeff, I am really sorry about this.  If I had known it would cost that much, I would not have responded to your request.  I think that is just way too much money for what you are getting.   If the wires and connector aren't EXACTLY what you want, let me know and I will try to make it up to you.
I was so stunned by the cost, I didn't notice if the shipping charge was marked on the package anywhere.  If not, I can send you the receipt.
They said you should have it Friday.  The service isn't even that fast!

thanks Joe, oh well! I don't want to have to make this section of wiring as it carries the curent from the alternator.  He's pretty tight with his money, but he will spend on his "little green turtle" Pinto. Do you have paypal?

No, I don't have PayPal.  Just wait until you get the wires, and if it is what you wanted just send me a cashier's check or money order.  If for some reason it is not what you wanted, let me know and we will work something out.  My address is in the envelope taped to the box.

I remember it cost $16.00 just to send two bolts to Jeff.  ::)

Hey Jeff if the wires are not what you need, just send them back. Simple. ;) ;D  :P

Great! I'm glad to hear it is what you wanted.
Also, I don't know how proficient you are at wiring, so I would like to offer some suggestions.
I do not like to rely on crimp connectors, especially on wires that carry a lot of current.  What I do is either twist the wires together in line and solder them, or use the metal portion of a crimp connector (without the insulation), crimp the wires, then solder it.  I like to cover everything with heat shrink instead of electrical tape, because it never unwraps.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Joe.....i'm very proficiant at wiring.... i redid my whole car, then put the EFI in myself! ;D The efi only took two tries to get it right, :-[  was'nt too sure where i screwed up the first time so i decided to pull it out and start over again. :(   For awhile last year i could not even imagine doing anymore wiring EVER again. I'm over it now though :'(  (facial tick) It's the fatherinlaws car....i'm going to put it together with alligator clamps and hope for the best! :o ;D ;D ;D
