could you post a link for the online manual?  I've got a paper manual but it only goes to 75 and my car is a 78

The question is moot. More like should be 'does the Chilton manual have all the information I'll need period?' and woefully, the answer is a resounding NO. Those manuals leave out so much it's not funny and the more years of a model they group together the more they leave out. They are good to get you started but very quickly you will find there are many unanswered questions and uncovered topics.

Anybody know if these are any count? 'Bishko', but they look like they're scans of the original Ford manuals...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Ford-Lincoln-Mercury-Shop-Service-Repair-Manual-CD-OEM-Mechanic-Guide-/140815135396?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1972%7CMake%3AFord&hash=item20c93c72a4&vxp=mtr

I've seen the paper versions available, as well, but they're 4x the price. They also have other years...I searched 72 cause I'm in the midst of a parts search, and my fingers are programmed. lol

Dunno if they have any Half Price Books near you but over time I have built up at least necessary service manuals for my car through them and cheap. Like late model catch-all Mitchell electronic ATX for $15. My '80 Pinto service was like $7. You just gotta play the waiting game and it helps to be in a big city where lots of young guys go to auto tech trade schools, many then shed the manuals for a pittance when hard up for the rent.

I've sourced a couple dozen manuals from Ebay over the years. I probably spent $100-150 total but I have complete sets of Ford service manuals for 71, 73, 76 & 80 plus various Chilton/Haynes manuals that are Pinto specific.
'73 Sedan (I'll get to it)
'76 Wagon driver
'80 hatch(Restoring to be my son's 1st car)~Callisto
'71 half hatch (bucket list Pinto)~Ghost
'72 sedan 5.0/T5~Lemon Squeeze
