Working on my 74 2 door with manual brakes.  Master had air in the front chamber (rear brakes), and obviously the brake light was on.

Added fluid, bled brakes.  Now I have all the brake pedal in the world.....but the brake light is on.

Now the parking brake does work, but the light stays on if the e-brake is on or off.

Is there a reset on the proprtioning valve?  Is there something I am missing??

Why do you park in a driveway, and drive in a parkway?  A cargo goes by ship, a shipmeny goes by truck.....You have a pair of panties, but just one bra......

As old as it is the switch may be possibly stuck...the one in the proportioning valve. How did you get air in the system in the first place? Have you inspected the rear brakes? If your park brake isnt working you may have other issues.

The general rule with a Pinto brake system - rebuild it all at LEAST twice, cross your fingers, hope for the best. I went through some real >STUFF< getting mine done, but they work fine now/ That is, of course, until I swap out the front passenger line, which is badly rusted.

I think there is a button or pin on these proportioning valves that has to be pushed to reset the bypass.(everything is at the shop. can't go check for ya)   some of them i think you had to hold the pin out and bleed the rears then do the fronts to get it to reset properly.  hope one of these sets you on the right path

About 10 years ago I locked up the brakes to avoid hitting an animal.  Afterwards the switch in the prop. valve either stuck or broke or something.  Brakes work fine, light stayed on.  I disconnected the wire from the valve and ran with it - no button on mine.  It has braked well ever since.
Soooo, it sould be a bad switch in the PV.

Havent had a chance to get to looking into it yet.....been  "busy".....lol

The e-brake works good.  Also, I did get the rear brakes to bleed, so the PV is allowing fluid to pass (ie, it thinks the system is fully functional).  I have GREAT rear brakes too - it'll lock the rears up on dry ashphalt.

Going to look into the park-brake switch.  If not, I guess its a new PV for me!

I had thought about the button on the PV, but (if I recall correct) wasn't that a GM reset button they used to use in the 80's?  Couldn't recall though...

Thanx all for the input!
