1972 california only timing mark
« on: September 16, 2014, 01:34:35 PM »
My 2.0 Squire has a notch in the crank pulley that timing is set to.  No degree marks at all.

Does anyone know what the notch is, as far as how much advance does it get me, and where should i realistically set it?

The engine I installed has a custom ground  crane cam.  I don't want to go crazy with it, as it needs to run a 14 1/2 hour race.  and there's a leaf blower supercharger on it with -20 windshield washer fluid being sprayed into the carb.  other than that, it's pretty much stock.

Motor manual back in the day shows a degreed balancer for 71-72 2.0. 6 BTDC on ATX and 9 BTDC for California. Sure you don't have other marks? They are usually faint and the notch is much more prominent. Often covered by paint or rust.

My balancer is degreed but you can barely see the numbers even after I cleaned it, smeared whiteout over the area and wiped it off real quick and the numbers showed right up, might want to try that..
