Title: wheel rubbing
Post by: dumcheesemonkey on July 20, 2012, 08:43:01 PM
i just bought my first pinto (green 79 wagon). Needs a bit of cosmetic work but for $500 a running car with only 30k is always good. Anyway, my tires seem to be rubbing while making a sharp turn (like parking). would i need to do a small lift to counter it or is there something else to try.

Where is it rubbing, what size tires and wheels? Look at the splash guard inside the wheelwell, behind the tire. Or around the top ball joint or A arm. Or on the inside engine compartment bulkhead. There will be marks in these places if that is your rub. Also check your wheel bearings for excess wear and or loose bearing nut(a maintenance item anyway)

If it is rubbing behind the tire on your splash guard your strut rod may need bushings or a replacement altogether or tires that are smaller in diameter. Rubs on the top A arm you need a spacer or a larger diameter wheel. Rubs on the engine bulkhead can be cured by spacers.
