Turbocharging a DIS 2.3
« on: June 03, 2014, 02:48:54 AM »
I put a DIS 2.3 from a 91 mustang into my pinto. I had the exhaust made up for it at the muffler shop but it is now leaking. I have two options. Install a header that I already have, and attach the exhaust to the header OR since I am thinking about going ahead and having a whole new exhaust system put on it and since I am planning to run a 2.3 turbo, maybe i should go ahead and install the turbo and have the exhaust made for it.  What do you guys think?

What will I need to do to make the 2.3 DIS run right with the turbo and what size exhaust should I run? I plan on going all out with this thing eventually, not right now tho. I just want to make it run with the N/A 2.3 setup for now (low boost and high octane of course).

Just put in a new exhaust manifold and be done. You really do not gain any real power by just slapping on a turbo to a 2.5 engine. For starters you need to change the rotating assembly (pistons, rings crank shaft con rods etc.) Go to turboford.org for more information.

If your serious about turboing a N/a 2.3 I wouldn't go past 5 psi from a stock turbo and you better have a set of forged pistons on order cause itll still be a time bomb ticking away.

If your still wanting to do this you miswell get a good intercooler installed and 3 inch exhaust and have everything there and done the first time for when yah do build a real motor so you can run real boost like 18+ psi.
