my pinto project
« on: September 17, 2011, 06:18:55 PM »
hi everybody

here`s my project pinto
i bought the car this week from a guy who had it for 3 years
he had to stop the project due to money problems

about the car
engine wasn`t running on al 6 cilinders
the guy wanted to paint the car but couldn`t do anything by himself
but had already started to paint it with a spraycan but went wrong

today we`ve started on the car
removed the heads of the engine and discovered a few burned valves
now we`re in the progress of sanding the valves and cleaning them

the car when i bought it :

today we`ve decided that we`re gonna put new exhaust valves in
reason for that is that some of the exhaust valves are slightly bend
and even after grinding them down wouldn`t close properly
intake valves are in good shape so no need for that

i am done cleaning one head next one tomorrow
also am almost done with cleaning the manifold
and cleaned the engine`s pistons and gasket leftovers

before engine and pistons

after engine and pistons

before head cleaning

after head cleaning

before and after cleaning exhaust valves

exterior is pretty solid base only one dent in the rear fixable
and it needs a respray
interior seats are in really good shape , front seats are bit dirty need to be cleaned
rear seats are like new
doorpanels are in good shape
only the top of the dash and headliner and the carpet need to be replaced

nice looking 78! Nice to see such a nice looker being saved. Anything else damaged or was it just the valves?

for the engine only new valves and full gasket set
and new oil , filters , sparkplugs
we`ve checked the camshaft but no wear in that

i`ll only need a scheme for the vaccum lines

for the transmission : needs new oil , and clean filter and mount

I've wanted a V-8 early trunk Pinto since I was 17. At 45 I'm finally going to build it.....Out of a '79 Hatch...... My '80 hatch will become my son's 1st car.
