Cut the bottom (inside) of the cowl out of it.  When I had the one from my parted and dead 76 stang II out, it must've weighed 50 or more lbs!  There is a LOT of weight in those doors too, I am assuming you are trying to keep the doors functional, but it may be better just to weld the skins onto the outside of the rest of the body.  If you want to lighten the whole thing a bit, try swapping the full rear diff for a straight axle out of a FWD minivan.  Not sure what would fit, but could be fun to peruse the pick-a-part yards with a tape measure.  It couldn't be too hard to weld spring perches on one of them.

Good luck, and have fun!
The Pinto I had I gave to my brother. The car was originally my mom's, (78 red Pinto sedan with a 2.3 and a 4spd.) I am originally from Tucson, AZ but moved to Oxnard CA :D
I'm looking for a Pinto wagon with an automatic.

thanx for the heads up on the cowl ill worm the sawzall up first thing tomorrow.as this was a thought of mine already. i will most likely cut in front of the door hinge support bar off and build my own front this will also shorten it moving the center of gravity back about 2-3 inches. just concerned about loosing unibody strength
yah i hafta keep the door fully functional. not an option for what i want from the project, as in what it will be used for. but i am cutting the door bars out and will be getting plexi glass and making my own windows.

btw, if you do cut out the bottom of the cowl and IF it is in good shape, you may want to offer it up to the folks redoing/repairing theirs as a 'patch panel' of sorts.

WOW! That makes ME want a teardrop trailer! How fun would that be going to Carlisle!?

P.S. If I didn't know better, I would've sworn that footage was filmed in Guajome Park...right in my backyard! I've seen teardrop trailer groups at the campground.
