Title: Pinto Powered Rock crawler
Post by: trader on July 17, 2012, 10:18:08 PM
Im new here and am trying to get to know more about my motor/combination. So here it goes. A couple years ago I started rockcrawling, it is basically a highly modified version of a 4x4. We started with a 1985 Toyota 4 runner and went from there. After replacing the suspension 3 times and finally getting to a place where the rig is starting to work properly I have decided to step up and replace my Toyota 22re motor. I purchases a 2.3l turbo with many Eslinger parts. It is mated up  to a c4 trans with a advanced adaptors c4 to toyota output shaft. This thing is starting to become a mix od who don its. At this time I am building the frams around the shocks and motor. Eventually the motor should make about 300 hp and should kick some butt in the rocks. At this time I am looking for a powersteering bracket to run all of the hydrolic steering stuff. Here are a couple pics of the progress.

Ater wheeling with a friend who had 37's  we realised that was the way to go. Added ARB's 529 and a marline lift.

1st trip to the hammers: broke front/rear R&P and crushed in the passenger side  sheet metal from blinker to blinker. Then decided to remove the Quarter panels.

One weekend my wife took a ride in a KOH buggy and came back with the go ahead to build something differant. This is where it gets fun.

Ford 2.3L Turbo
So here is my question,
1.Is there a hedder that I can purchase to redirect the turbo more to the front. It line cannot be installed in its current configuration because of the shocks.
2. Where do I get a power steering bracket and pump for  serp style
3. Is there a hermonic balance that makes the motor run more smoothe. Apparently they viberate and break the bellhousings
4. Is there any web sites that is good source for this motor

1. There are headers for the 2.3turbo that will push the turbo forward and a little farther upwards.
http://stinger-performance.com/ (http://stinger-performance.com/) has a center mount tube header intercoolers and alot of other nice parts.
http://www.bo-port.com/ (http://www.bo-port.com/) Also sells alot of nice parts for the 2.3 turbo including a center mount thats is extremly nice http://www.bo-port.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=3 (http://www.bo-port.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=3)

2. Mustangs,Rangers, Thunderbird turbocoupe any of them that has a 2.3 and serp belt setup will work.

3. I have atleast 5 2.3s and yes they do vibrate a little but not enough to break a bell housing. Unless your revving the crap outta it like 9k plus I wouldnt worry about anything like that.

4. Best source you will find for 2.3 turbo knowledge is http://www.turboford.org/ (http://www.turboford.org/) Im over there as well Due to my 78 mercury bobcat has a 2.3 turbo in it!

Also Its cool to see someone else on here with a 4runner yours seemed to be in better shape then mine bodywise.Mines a 87 22re/broken 5 speed atm the front ends removed due to its getting chevy halfton axles and more lift it had 4 with the ifs but when its done will prolly be closer to 7inchs.I plan on swapping in a V8 with FI and hopfully a th350/np208 tcase and install full hydro steering. Then itll be time to crawl it or break it again! LOL

you can also go to turborangerfor ums and for the exhaust you could try to find a flipped bobs log for a ranger or on that forum a guy sells flip flanges for the e6 manifold so the stock turbo manifold flips upside down and the turbo is at the front of the engine.
