Title: Pinto engine help in Phoenix
Post by: PintoCaribee on November 29, 2012, 12:32:56 PM
I have a 2.0 Pinto engine in a project I am building and need somebody in Phoenix AZ that can tune a pinto engine. It has dual side draft Dellortos, mild cam and custom stainless header. I need help. Not looking for a freebie just assistance. Thanks. Cool to see so many Pinto enthusiasts. My first car was a red '73 Runabout with a 2.0 and cream colored interior. Had the first set of BFG Radial T/A's in the county. Miss it still. Thanks all!

PintoCaribee,
I have dual side draft Weber DCOE 40's and this is a real gray area. The assumption is that the Dellortos aren't too large for the tune of the engine build. My 2.0 is built to the old IMSA sedan limits of that era and my cam isn't that wild (288 deg , 4.50 lift) It revs cleanly to 7 grand but runs out of top end HP quickly. It's a nice hot street motor that will run on 92 octane, but really luvs the 108 fuel. Mine is only a 10-1 compression ratio by the limits of the class rules and if I had more , it would really snap ..but only on race gas. Tuning these is to err on the small side of venturis and jetting unless the motor is built up with lots of Head work, and cam lift.  Rule of Thumb. stock motors with the mild cam won't run well on any duals larger than 45 mm.
Hope this saves you some Grief, and $$
