After five years—it's back!
« on: July 10, 2013, 12:14:54 AM »
Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster.

I've owned this '73 Runabout for many, many years. After all the other fancy cars that have come and gone, this is the one I still have.

2000cc, four speed, disc brakes, and that's about it. Engine freshly rebuilt, more or less stock. The rest of the car has been well maintained but never restored. Original blue CA plates. Everything still works (most of the time). Lowered about 1.5" in back, a bit more in front.

So, after five years in storage, I changed the fluids, drained the gas, blew out the lines, cleaned the carb, did a quick tune up, washed off the dust and it runs just like before—really well!

Happy to be driving it once again. But you probably know the feeling.

Thanks for all the nice words!

It's funny, when I was getting it ready to run I was thinking to myself, "Here we go again, I can't believe I'm putting yet more time, effort and money into this car..." because, yeh, it's impossible to recoup should I sell it...

Then I realized that I have no plans to sell, and so that whole issue is somewhat irrelevant. Not to mention I'd forgotten how much I like driving this car. In a world of front wheel drive, transaxles, etc., it's so unique to have a four cylinder car with a solid rear axle and rear wheel drive and a driveshaft tunnel running down the middle of the interior.

Also, when the fuel pump failed, it once again proved an easy car to push to the side of the road, being so light and small. And without even asking, people seemed to come immediately to my rescue. That was really cool.

I sometimes wish these posts had a "like" button like facebook... this car is gorgeous! I am glad you're keeping it!

There is nothing like driving one of these wonderful cars and the feedback I get from the public still floors me.

Are you in SoCal by any chance?

One can never have too many Pintos!

Used to be; Marina del Rey. Now in Northern CA, SF Bay Area. Where the car was from originally!
