My Project! Oh Boy! 76 sedan V6/C3 converting to 2.3L/4speed
« on: February 09, 2015, 11:07:40 PM »
What have I just done to my once pretty well running Pinto.

It was a 2.8L V6 / C3 tranny.  Air Conditioning Power rack and pinion. Not the quickest car not the low end torque, didn't blow people off the line.  It did run Great at 65-75 miles per hour due to the 3.00:1 rear end gears.  I did like that.  Well, The tranny is dropped the V6 is sitting on the floor of my garage.  Why did I do this? I'm not quite sure. But its done.

I'm tired of the V6 and how difficult it is to find parts to make it better.  I also have a few little leaks or drips from the auto trans, the power steering, the small leak from the right side head gasket  :-\

I have a freshly rebuilt 2.3L with a newer cylinder head from a ranger and a stage 2 Comp Cam.  Everything is new on the motor...Yeah!  I have a 4 speed. The power rack and pinion is coming out and a Manual rack and pinion is going in.

I will get some pictures up when I can.

My Biggest mistake:   Doing something like this without a parts car. :(  Not like I have anywhere to store a parts car if I had one.

Parts needed so far.  Anyone have these parts:

(1) Clutch/brake pedal assembly

(2) Frame mounts for a 2.3L. I have the motor mounts for the 2.3L.  My current frame mounts have a V6 written on them.  I don't think they will work.

(3) 4 speed transmission rear mounting bracket/support.  Attaches to cross member.

(4) Does anyone know where to get a Clutch cable dust cover boot for the bell housing?

Tell me what you think.  Be nice about it.  Should I have my head examined?

Hello blink77.

I'm in Idaho.  I am doing what Dianne said.  I'm going to fordpinto.com and asking for help.

Hello Dianne.

I thought I saw your wagon around town.  But, you weren't driving it.  It wasn't painted.  Have you painted yours yet?

Rail, you are???

There is another 73 running around all primer on it. It's a squire wagon though. I've lent mine to people at work sometimes when their car was broken down also. Mine is at the Shave Shopper right now being painted. Hopefully by next week.

If you want to stop in at the garage (nexGarage on North Kings Road) my guys are doing the 2.3 EFI rebuild right now. They are actually waiting on parts, but when I get the car back they will be putting it all back together and placing the 2.3 in there!

Are you the one I see with the black Pinto and flames going up and down 3rd and 2nd streets here? Or are you the one who bought that esquire wagon?

If you look on my project page you'll see the interior done :)

I'm the blue pinto parked at the church every so often.  I might stop in to that garage and take a look.
