My Gas gauge "healed" itself.
« on: January 30, 2013, 08:40:01 PM »
I recently bought a cool little '77 Bobcat.  I've done some minor repairs and replaced the interior.  The only real problem was that the gas gauge didn't work.  It drove my wife crazy, because I'm bad on keeping our minivan full.

So sure enough, I ran out of gas, complete drained the tank.  After getting a fuel can with a couple of gallons, I made it to the nearest gas station.  Since it seems like the gauge is working, hopefully, it continues to.

I think the Bobcat healed itself.....it must like all the TLC its been getting.

I'm now saving for new paint.

That happened with me a couple times first with my wife's Taurus, didn't work at first but after it ran out of gas one day it started working fine. Maybe the float just gets zoop and kinda falls back down under its own weight when the tank gets low enough. If I ever get anther car with a bad fuel gauge I'm gonna empty the tank and beat on it with my hand before doing anything else. ;D

every time i get a new or used car i intentionally run it out of gas just to see where the needle sits when it goes empty for real
the only substitute for cubic inches is BOOST!!!
