My new project?
« on: May 14, 2013, 07:55:33 PM »
I'm hoping this will be the start of my project thread...i had an ad in a local paper in search of a classic subcompact and got a call from a gentleman who had a one-owner 71 Pinto with a spare parts car...so today i rode up and took a look at "the girls".  Not going to lie, they are rough. The guy originally told me the 71 had a "1.3", but my research leads me to believe its actually a 2.0, because it has the automatic which, from my understanding, wasn't available with the 1.6 in 71. I didn't look at the brakes to see if the front were discs. But his wife (who bought the car new in 70) now has Parkinson's and has to let it go. It has some bad rust issues, but i think i can save it. Supposedly it runs great and has new brakes and a newer transmission (C4 the guy tells me which I'm thinking is right). The parts car he told me was a 72 but talking to some of y'all on the Facebook group i think we can ascertain its about a 74.  I'll be back with pen and paper in a few days to get VIN's and other info...anyhow, here are the pics!

And if it wasn't a bomb before...it now has a "marine" fuel tank. Gotta get that back right. The rear truck floor is practically gone...

And the parts car...guesses on year are welcome but we think she's a 74.

Wish me luck in getting them!

If you've got the time for a project, it look like a good one!  Best of luck!

thanks y'all!  i don't have a LOT of free time, but i have enough to devote to the '71 as needed.  the '74 will either be used for sheet metal and the few parts that are left or will be sold to a fellow Pinto lover to try to resurrect...if any think they can take on the challenge...
