Like a Zombie - back from the dead
« on: June 21, 2012, 09:48:03 AM »
Just purchased a sad old 1975 Pinto Runabout in South Carolina and had it shipped back to Florida to rehabilitate. It had everything that I wanted: old design grill, manual transmission, 2.3 liter engine and hatchback. Expect this to be a 2 year project (at least).

Glad to see someone saved this car.   ;D  I was gonna look at it but had found a nicer one closer to home. How bad is the damage on the left rear? The pics of the lr swayed me from the car a little bit.

I was really looking at another Pinto on Craigslist, also in South Carolina, but I could never make contact with the seller. Opted for this one instead. The damage to the back quarter panel and hatch are not bad but it is rusted through the floor in 3 places. That will be a major undertaking. "The Green Zombie" got all new tires today and a new key made for it. Lots of fun things to do on this car.

I like the family tradition angle. Your son is a lucky kid.

Thanks  :)  I was planning to sell it when I found my trunk car but he fell in love with it when he was 9. He loves riding in it & didn't want me to sell it so I asked if he wanted it for a 1st car when he turns 16. I think he nearly fainted. It gave me an excuse to build a really nice car for him. The plan is to get him out there helping me work on it eventually.

My first car was a 1976 trunk model Pinto. Within a month it caught on fire and burned up (I think it had something to do with the bad wiring job my friend and I did installing a radio) Turning 50 this year made me decide to try it one more time. The Zombie is going to get a year of mechanical revitalization before I start work on the paint and interior, next summer.

Easley South Carolina! ( I am from S.C.) Great Save, I love the Zombie. There is supposed to be a 1 owner close around where I live, And it's up for sale. I just got to get other projects finished first.

At the same time that I was looking at the Green Zombie, I was trying to reach the owner of a nice looking one on Craigslist in Kershaw, SC. Is that the one that you are talking about? I finally heard back from them after I had already purchased the one that I got.

I have a 79 Bobcat wagon I bought in Kershaw S.C. about 4 years ago. (This is getting weird) I still have family and co-workers that tell me of Pinto's all the time. Anyway, I love the Green of the Green zombie. And that will be a sweet ride when you are done.

LOL Dwayne, seriously, because S.C. is my favorite state I want one that resided there and has the sticker to prove it!  ;D

I'd take a Virginia Pinto or even one from North Carolina, too... ;)
