Title: Legit Parts Sources?
Post by: 1973FordPinto on June 02, 2015, 01:02:34 PM
We've received emails from about four people now who have seen that we are looking for 1973 Pinto car doors.  As soon as we email them back and say, yes, and we ask them if they are a member of the Pinto Car Club and if so what is their user name, they don't respond back.  Never hear a word back.  It makes them sound not legit.
Just wondering if anyone out there has had these problems?

ALL THE TIME!!!! Beware of them and do not use Western Union or a credit card or a check unless you are certain.

I will only use Paypal after a request is sent by the person. Do that and you'll be fine and can get your money back if they are scammers.

Thanks for the best way to buy online.  Wish we didn't have to be so careful and people could be honest.  But that's not going to happen.

While you are not getting the results you would like, be thankful that your "filter" is working.  You could be without doors - and your money.  Remember the newest of the Pinto's are 35 yeas old and the oldest 44 years old. If you live in the rust belt and any distance from a populated area it probably will take time for you to acquire the doors. I'm in the greater area of the second largest city in the nation. And I'm fortunate to find a Pinto every 2-3 trips to Pick Your Part (that I make monthly).

This dilemma points to the hole left when Fred Morgan passed away. Setting aside shipping costs that could have been prohibitive if Fred was still with us you likely would have your doors.

I put a ad in the wanted section for a radiator for my 73 and got a reply a few days later which I expected but after responding to the email I was emailed from a totally different email which instantly threw red flags for me

You're right.  We're glad we sensed something was wrong before we paid for them.
Yes, we do live in the rust belt.  On top of it, we need them shipped to us.  We can’t leave our home and animals unattended and make the long trips.
We found a couple doors from a member but we couldn’t make the trip and he couldn’t ship.  We can understand that.  It just didn’t work out but hoping some day it will.  It’s teaching us patience though.

Yes, Fred is missed.  It’s hard to find an honest man and one who cares to help others.

You'd think the crooks would know by now to use the same email, any way, so as to not make anyone suspicious.

Thanks, for the lead.  Appreciate the help.  We need doors for '73 Sedan.  I'm on their website now trying to figure it out.  What state is Lewiston in?

The same here.  And the cost of shipping is way out of our price range.  It's practically the same as both doors cost.  Wish we could find someone in our area but we are in the rust belt.  Oh well.  We might have to wait a long time for that.

Just wanted to say that we've found a local source who will completely restore our 73 Pinto.  He's going to replace the rust with new metal, shape and reconfigure our doors.  It will take a lot of time, work and money but he says it can be done.  We trust him also and that's important when you hand over money to someone.  We hope this will finish our car restoration so we can finally drive it!
Thanks everybody for your commiseration on finding parts.
