Just installed Holley Fuel Injection on my pinto!
« on: December 01, 2019, 11:03:34 PM »
I just installed the  Holley sniper 2300 EFI on my daily driver pinto and it was pretty straight forward. Way easier than swapping the multiport system from a later model. And the sniper is turbo upgradeable, so if i decided to go that route the door is open. I even made a video about it! check it out

First let me say as someone who taught Television Production for 23 years this was EXCELLENT!  You were mic-ed, there was no radio blaring in the background, the camera didn't appear like it was mounted in a paint mixer bobbing on a ship in a storm. You knew what you wanted to say and the piece was edited with a nice flow.  A+ to you sir!

Regarding the fuel lines, I adapted mine from a '88 Turbo Coupe and they aren't pretty either (image below). Being plastic they have a small amount of flex before kinking but basically you have to go where they will go.  I used the F-150 external fuel pump and it is rather quiet. I opted to use the fuel sender as the return by drilling a hole and soldering the return line in.

I'd be curious to know the cost of the Holley unit and if you ever considered the factory EFI setup from the later 2.3 cars/trucks?

Also, here in California cars 1976 and newer still have to be smog tested and the arrangement needs to be factory original (carburetted) or C. A. R. B. (California Air Resources Board) compliant. I don't know if the Holley system is??? Even if it was I believe the modification has to go to a Referee Station (about $150) for final approval. That is not an issue for me being I have a '73 Pinto but it might for others.

Thanks again for the excellent video.

Wow, thank you very much. I work pretty hard on my videos to keep them from becoming "those" kinds of videos.

I just built some new 3/8" fuel lines and it really quieted the pump down. It still wines but that might be due to pump damage from running it like that for a year.

I ended up soldering a 3/8" hose barb onto my 5/16" pickup tube and it works quite well. (Video coming soon)

As for the cost of the Sniper, the whole master kit came in right around $1200, which when I consider the labor I think just edges out using a later model EFI from a donor car. I dont know if the sniper is smog legal but there are a few setups that are CARB compliant. Where I live in texas vehicles older than 25 years are subject to safety only inspections. I really want to do an emissions test though and just see what the numbers.

Just got finished watching your nicely done video , got to say it was well thought out and agree that once you get use to fuel injection you never want a carb again , I made a home made fuel injection on mine , its a V6 car and used a TBI off a 84 5.0 , and 2.9 computor off a frod bronco II , on the fuel lines on the return line I used a bulkhead fitting back to the tank , you can pick them up in steel or alum from aircraft spruce , or like you used from a hyd shop ,  they ar JIC fittings that have the same properties as aircraft fittings , planning on removeing my tank to up grade it with some baffolds , reason is when you have less than a 1/4 tank of fuel and turn the fuel pickup get uncovered and the engine stumbles , any numbers on MPG you getting over the carb ?  good to know that holley has that set up in case mine ever dies , have a good one

Thanks! I ended up using a bulkhead fitting on the return, and at this time I haven't noticed an increase in MPG. BUT! that being said i used to get between 25 and 30 by babying it around town, now I keep up with traffic and get 25-30. But it seams like if I baby it I still get 25-30.
