Can I change these over from the II to the 73 Pinto wagon?
Would it be an easy swap?

71 - 73 control arms are different from 74 - 78 arms & spindles.

Thanks :)

Not a bolt on. Can be done BUT lots of WORK and not worth it on a daily driver. I raced my 72 race car Pinto for 20 years with stock 72 brakes so its no big deal.

Yeah, I'm just gonna move the back brakes from the Pinto to the new rear. :)

Not necessary if your going to install a Mustang II 8" rear end. 8" rear end brakes from a II are the same as a 74/80 Pinto and the shoes are about 1/4" wider than a 71/72 and maybe 73 Pinto rear brakes. They will work just fine under your Pinto and are a true bolt on mod.

Just something else to watch out for when swapping late and early parts. The 71-72 cars had smaller OD hubs than the 74-80 cars, not sure about the 73. So 71-72 brake drums will not fit on the 74-80 hubs. Also the 74-80 brake drums will not be centered if used on 71-72 stock hubs. Another result of the different hub OD size is that early factory steel wheels will not fit over the later larger hub.

I'm just going to move the 73 rear drums to the 74 and it's bolt in I guess.

Be careful, early pinto axles and Hubs use a smaller locating pilot hole, on the drums and original wheels. I had to ream out my 13"X7 wide steelies center hole for the rear when I put in the 8"axle and carrier. I'm not sure if you can insert the 6-3/4 axles into a 8" axle and diff to remediate that Difference. I used the 8" drums because they are beefy and will shed heat better . Besides you can always get 74 or later rims that will fit the 8" axles and the front hubs.
Two cents and a bucket of oats.. Just add water :D

I would then have mismatching lugs patterns if I don't. We'll see this week if I ever get my car back from the paint shop. That guy is so anal!

All Pintos and all 4 lug 8" rear ends have the very same 4 1/4" bolt pattern. Maybe you were thinking of a Vega which has a 4 1/2" bolt pattern. None of the parts in a 6 3/4" rear end will fit in or on an 8" rear end except the fill plug. Also all of the brake parts (drums / shoes / backing plates / etc / etc) from a 74/80 Pinto are the same as any four lug 8" rear end. They will interchange with each other.

I don't know. If I get my car back ever, I'll know LOL

Mine is a 73 :(

Dianne, your 8 inch rear is a 73? Not if it is from a II.
