Ford Explorer 8.8 rear swap.
« on: November 05, 2011, 04:11:39 PM »
This question is for those who have already done it or know the answer. I'm looking at the website of a local wrecking yard for a 8.8 rear. the the parts locator function gives the choice for a V8 or V6 application. is one preferable over the other ? does it make a difference ?

Don.

just look for a 4x4 explorer and get 2 short side axles...the 4x4 will be track lock 31 spline with either 373 or 410 gears

I got that part, but does it make a difference if it came out of a V6 or V8 vehicle ?

I believe the most desireable is the 95 - 01 Explorer 8.8 . it has 31 spline axles and the most common gear set it a 373 with an occaisional 410 unit being found. trac lock and five lug disc brakes are the norm...
