Anyone got any ideas on this.I can't keep a muffler in the car for more than 3 mo before they start coming apart on me. I removed the glass pack from the car and installed a flowmaster.It took the little pinto about 2 mo to dislodge the baffles and start rattling.So next we tried the corvair turbo muffler,it made it about 3 mo before it went,blowing out the inlet pipe.Next I installed a raptor,3 weeks later it has blown out the tail pipe.I welded it up to stop the noise but it seems every thing inside is loose as well,AHHHHH.The exhaust is properly hung and it has not done any backfiring.Thi s is a basically stock motor,only bolt on engine mods.I'm running a hooker super competition header and 2.5 in exhaust if that may mean anything.I have had no problems with glass packs only can or welded mufflers.

Are you running a resonator or just one muffler ? I thought the Wagons had two mufflers and are you running 2 1/2 " all of the way to the tail pipe ?

I had ElCheapo Cherry Bombs on my '79 pickup for 14 years without an issue & never had a problem with Flowmasters either. I'd love to open up the Flowmaster & see the damage inside. All they have is a case with a few welded baffles inside & no packing material. Even vibration shouldn't cause the damage you describe so quickly.

I used a turbo muffler without anything else straight piped no issues I cruised the hi bancs at MIS (Michigan international speedway) top speed!!3laps at car show the Onsted international car show to was ausim fun &then drove back & forth from Mi. To Wa.3 times on 1 muffler nothing elsewhere in the exhaust!

O I forgot we were only aloud to go 70mi I Floored it & bared the speedo & held it down & when I finally let off the gass the Speedo didn't move 4 a cupil of seconds lol.

The system has a 12 in glass pack under the pass seat and the pipe is 2.5 in all the way back with a 3.5 in tailpipe.this is driving me nuts,it just doesn't make any sense.whats worse is the raptor muffler sounded really mean till it started to fall apart.

if i am reading you right without seeing a picture it sounds like you have the muffler in place of the glasspack under the passenger seat. If that is the case it doesnt matter how well the system is supported and in fact a firmly mounted assembly is going to wreck stuff faster. motors move around a lot and it sounds like the lead pipe from the header is flexing the casing of the mufflers causing them to crack around the inlets and outlets. buy a piece of flex pipe like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-642510-1/overview/ and put it between the header and muffler. No more broken parts.

It sounds like your motor may be leaning out. Maybe a small intake leak or a header leak. Check your carb jetting. If it is leaning out, it will take out a muffler and cat converter. It makes the exhaust run too hot. Hope this helps.

I,m Running a 4150 390 holley,51 primary and 40 secondary jets.It is running just slightly rich.At this point I'm looking at my crank pulley.I have a cnc aluminum pulley made by a local machinist.The work is beautiful but I am wondering if it is out of balance.The last few days I have been really paying attention and I am noticing a high frequency vibration.The pulley is only about 5 in diameter so if that is the case could it possibly be enough to cause this issue.
