Need to remove body surround moldings for painting on my 72 pinto wagon. Side door moulding came off easily. I am hesitant to begin prying on other body trim moldings without some advice. Any help please. jt

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the side trim on my '72 was just glued on with a rubberized adhesive. I carefully pryed it off with a putty knife. The "badges" I found for the most part are secured with pins on the badge itself and little plastic inserts through the body panel JC

I helped a friend remove (factory) side trim from his 72 wagon and they were bolted on

The earlier models had the aluminum side mouldings, even up to 73 I think as have a full set from a 73 Runabout, which I may sell. It may depend on where the car was manufactured. They had bolts on the ends and clips in between along the door. I'm pretty sure the end mouldings in front and behind the door have one bolt and a spring clip. My 74 Runabout came with the adhesive type side mouldings. As far as the Pinto emblems go, those are called barrel nuts that the small pins press into. Some are metal and some are plastic. I found if you gently pry the emblems off a little at a time with something like a gasket scraper or a trim tool they come off without breaking. There are tons of those around if you break one, and you caoul easily find one from somebody here in the club. I have several myself.

Check before you remove the trim some of the later years have a plastic slider that goes on a stud that holds the trim in place and I have not found any replacements, I'm not sure about the early years however. If possible clean and then clean again the trim and then mask with good masking tape leaving a small gap between the trim and the rest of the panel and paint the area. Or you could remove the trim and fill in the mounting holes leaving only the Ford and Pinto and window trim in place..
