Anyone have roll bar pics
« on: February 09, 2015, 09:08:20 AM »
I'm just about at that point and am looking for ideas,I can not seem to find any pics of placement of the rear bars in the trunk and am wondering how far forward some have run those bars,I plan on doing a custom 12 point with swing outs.

Thanks
 Tony

Well my 40th search under roll cage show a few results but I have to say not a lot out there,I'll make sure and post lots of pics when I get on mine, just not sure yet from whom to purchase. S&W wants 975.00 for a 12 point which works out to about 580.00 for shipping to my door which to me anyways is out of the ballpark. Waiting on a price from  Autoweld and am hoping for a better price.
I did get a local price for a custom supplied and installed 12 of for ballpark 1800 which is I think real fair. But he is booked for at least 3 months
Maybe it's time to buy the tube bender I ve always wanted

Just type in ford pinto roll cage. There is a company on there that makes pre fab roll cage kits with free shipping.

He's in Canada. That usually kills cheap/free shipping.
But yeah, do a search using ford pinto roll cage if you haven't already.

Yup expensive to be a Canuk. Yes lots on a Google search for purchase of a kit but I really wanted to see how people have done theirs and differences between how and why they did it the way they did
My last build a 64 Fairlane I had a 6 point installed and if I ever.built another one knew what changes would happen. Myself being 6'4" and 285lbs warrants fit issues and this time I want to do it right. Thanks

I put an 8 point in my wagon. In edmonton so also a stuck canuck when it comes to easy access to parts.  Anyways, they do have a prefab kit. competition engineering makes it.  think it was 300 bucks from mopac including the main hoop. I made internal subframe connectors and tied everything together at the main hoop.  i put a swing out door bar on the drivers side with 2 sets of m/f clevises and let the skirts climb over the bar on the passenger side for fun. With heavily bolstered race seats id recommend a quick release for the steering wheel too.  there is no ingress or egress without one the other or both depending on your frame.    had to flip the arm rests side to side and chop off the pull handles to clear the bars.gonna find some late model stuff that didn't have pulls to substitute eventually...    Had to make some minor concessions to the front placement being that it's tight like a nuns muffin for a 6ft4 pilot myself and squeezing the door bars past the seats left few options. but I ran add'l plates on the outside of the front  mount point and added another plate in front of the door tied to the rockers with another support going up to the door bars.
Modest beginnings start with the single blow of a horn man..    Now when you get through with this thing every dickhead in the world is gonna wanna own it.   Do you know anything at all about the internal combustion engine?

Entropy. Wow nice pics thanks a bunch, looks like a well done build and offers all some insight on what can be done.basically you went with a skeliton system and it looks like it will work dam good.
Lots similar that I am doing on mine except I am grafting lots into the floor and existing components of my pinto.
Thanks for sharing

I welded a 1x2 between the upper shock mounts and have now welded a 2x2 from the rear shackle mount and upper shock mount.

The trunk is in now and welded up solid, as you have done with a tube running from wheel well to wheel well I plan to run a 2x3 welded down solid to offer support to the upper shock mounts and from there run more 2x3's down to connect onto the subframe connectors essentially making a frame from front to back all supported with the cage to be built yet.
I got lucky , through a buddy of mine I have set it up for a retired gent that used to build cages in the past  he will come down to my garage with his bender and bend up my cage on site for me to weld in. Lots of pics to follow on that for all to see as well.

I can't remember where I was reading. The Article said that back in the 70's people would rent a pinto from Hertz and then install some kind of temporary roll bar.  They would have a cheep weekend racer. Does anyone know about that?

I'm running an old set of 4 lug 15" Centerline AutoDrags  15 x 7 all around and with an additional pair of 15 x 4 pizza cutters for the front when I'm out doing serious social work.  Rears are 235 60 series Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radials.  Fronts are some no-name 235 50 series.  The pizza cutters are some BF Goodrich 165s.  I don't remember offhand what the offset is, but I've got it somewhere in my notes and I'll try to find it....or just go out and measure.  One more thing that needs to be said is that I *really* want to get different rims.  Some of my Centerlines... particularly the ones in the back...are leaking between the rim halves.  I've managed to improve 3 of the 4 7" rims by taking a wire wheel to the inside of the rim where the old and failed sealer was and replacing it with Permatex "The Right Stuff" gasket sealer.  If anybody's got a pair of 8" wide 15" 4 lug rims they want to sell....let me know.
