has anyone had any luck on finding a drive shaft that is same or close to same and whats in are pintos??

have read that awd 94-97 ford areostar rear shafts are only 1/2 in shorter

awd Aerostar with a t5 and an 8.8 bolts right in. didn't even have to change the yokes from the v6awd van unit. was 29.01 at the boneyard.
if it does measure only a half inch shorter than your original it will work fine there is lots of overlap in the slip yoke. Word of note there are two shafts that come in those units an early and late part # the late part # has welded ends and the early one is just pressed. There was a recall on it so you may find the welded one on pre-96 models but avoid the ones with no welds as they are known weak links.

well not going to work in my set up. 4speed with 6.3/4 rear, so if anyone is looking have one for sale, and is welded!!!! and like new. just asking what i had to spend for it 75.00

I have an early rear wheel drive aerostar DS in my 73. The ends are pressed in so it makes it easy to shorten and press the end back. I had mine welded to be sure that it would not spin. The only thing I don't like about mine is that it is a 3" tube on the rear wheel drive vans where the AWD is the same diameter as the Pinto.
vonkysmeed is correct, the AWD is the same length and dia as the fox mustangs. I am running one in my 86 Saleen. The original driveshaft assembly weighed 16 lbs. I reused the mustang yoke and axle flange piece because they were smaller than the van ones. The assembled aluminum DS weighed 7 lbs when done. Not a bad weight savings for $40 total.
