white crystals

has anyone ever seen white crystal like substance in thier carbs before?? i saw this after taking off the top of my carb to adjust the float level. the cryatl look a little fiberglass pieces.

it's corrosion, you'll see it at the legs of the seats in older cars.

corrosion?? from what? how do I find the culprit?? what do I use to flush the system??

not 100% sure, but i think it happens when different metals (aluminum and steel) are in contact with eachother.

It is corrosion, and what causes that is the moisture in the air that goes through the carb corrodes the aluminum. I've seen it all the time on the bead of aluminum wheels.

this "corrosion" is or was in the float bowl. I do not know what they look like after they dry . but when I pulled some onto my fingertip they looked like the shaving from rotor turning attracted to a magnet

Ok just to get all "techincal" on ya, it's "electrolosis" the reaction between two dissmilar metals. In this case iron oxide(rust, most likely from your tank & lines) & aluminum. the two metals actually create electricity that breaks down the metal at the molecular level. My carb looks like a crackhouse mirror inside about once a year. :P
