79 rear bumper question
« on: March 13, 2016, 08:23:19 PM »
So I've tucked my front bumper now for the back, I've heard that you can drill out the isolator and push the piston in your move the bumper closer. Has anyone done this or has tucked there rear 79-80 bumper let me know.

Mines a 76... well that area is, but here's what I did. I removed the rear shackle mounts, bumper and skirt. Then moved the holes on the bumper mounting plate forward so that the first hole on plate is lined up with last hole on frame. On mine, that position worked, so I drilled out the plate to match the other 4 frame holes, in that position. Cut off the excess plate, where the no longer used hole are, then re-assembled it. On mine, the skirt was stapled on, so I had to tack up some holes and grind it out a little. And if none of the factory holes line up well for yours, you may have to plot all 6 holes, I recommend using a template.

Ps.
I don't have a factory fuel tank, so that might have made it easier.

So now that I took the bumper mounts off a few weeks ago I completely forgot where the leaf spring shackle mounts, last set of holes or the middle two . I'm thinking middle 2 or second set in especially if we cut the first 2 off and move the isolator in

If you're talking about just bolt on swap, I have no idea. If you're handy with the metallurgical arts, you can chop and section just about anything to fit.
