I learned something today!
« on: May 26, 2016, 09:42:04 PM »
I had to replace my master cylinder(wanted to wait till I did my big brake swap, but...mushy...), and I was loosening the bleeders, before I put the juice in, when I broke one off on the 8" rear end!!! After a quick recital of my favorite curses, I went and checked a 4link 7.5" rear end, just to see if it the same bleeders, maybe wheel cylinders. To my surprise it had all exactly the same brake components as my mustang II 8". Much better condition though, so I swapped it all out, with the goods on the m2 8". Don't really want to put any money into it, irs is coming.

Perhaps it's old hat to some of the heady ford dudes, but I thought that was cool... and lucky!

Of course the same can't be said about the brake drum center hole which on the 6-3/4" and the 8" are two different sizes regardless that the drum itself is the same size. So, glad I opted to pay all of $10 more for a "drum to drum" rear when I got my 8". Anyway, glad it all worked out for you.
What I have learned to do is:
1.  - realize nothing gets done soon enough.
2. - because of point #1 I try and saturate any pending parts to remove with penetrating oil.
3. - because point #1 leads to point #2 there are times (but not always) that I have benefited from such foresight and have bolts/nuts loosen rather readily.

I learned something else today... Whoever manufactured that mc should $%@# a big fat D%&*!!!! It wont hold a seal on the reservoir cap. I tried a number of springs lids and seals from other mc's I have here. But it turns out, the cast lip is not a flat plane! It has destroyed the finish on it and the whole corner of the engine bay! Someone at autozone is about to have a REALLY bad day!
