They did a really sweet job on that. I like the way they did the door bars...I may have to consider doing mine like that. Love the look of the car with the Cragers...may have to swap out my Centerlines for a set of those.

I think that's the Mickey Thompson crossram. Hard as hell to find. I wanted to go with one before I settled on my tunnelram but the $2300 price tag scared me off.

I like the look of them myself but I don't think they would pass tech for speeds requiring a door bar. For the street they are perfect though.

Those door bars should pass just fine for say 10s but once you get past that and hit the 9s the roll bar wouldnt be legal anyhow cause it requires a full cage then at 8.50 it requires a 25.1D funny car cage.

And I thought the hole in my hood for the blower was big.  The hole for that cross ram might need some bracing on the under side.  Your friends car is going to be one sweet ride.

I have the correct door bars for racing but only an 8 point cage.  Because the car, with the right goodies, can run in the 9's, it does not pass tech because it only has an 8 point cage.  And I am not about to tear it apart to put in bigger bars and a 10 point cage.  So the car has been retired from racing and made street legal.

My tubs are 19.25 inches deep and the tires are 18.5 inches wide.  I own the 2 worst production cars made in America.  My other car is a 1976 Vega.  The picture is the back side of both cars.  Notice the differance in rear tire widths.  Pinto looks like a dragster from the back.

I thought the door bars had to pass between the shoulder & elbow on the way down. Kirkey seats all the way back might pull that off.

Theres actually alot of cars that run bars like those. But from how it looks that cars gonna be a play toy and not and all out racer anyhow and the cage is more for looks and chassis stiffness as to all out safety for racing.

Officials prolly would get really angry about those door bars if they aren't made from proper size and wall thickness tubing. But as I said before if it only makes it to the 10s they more then likely wont say a whole lot about it. Now the 9s are totally different story they would be extremely mad and prolly even madder if you don't have your proper license.

To me personally I wont run doors bars like that cause they kinda defeat the purpose of the roll bar/cage which is safety in the first place. Also if one is worried about getting in their car and they still want to run a cage just install some swing out door bars. They are 100% legal and still do what they need to by being there to stop the door from slamming into your side if something does happens and you nail the wall.

bbobcat75,

That is going to be one sweet machine your friend will have.  The cross ram with those dual intakes sticking up looks mean now even without the hood.  It takes a lot of imagination, engineering, time, money and effort to build these one of a kind cars.  My hat is off to your friend for his hard work and toil.

That car will draw lots of attention when it hits the street.  Looking forward to more progress and more great pictures.  Well done.

I have 29x15.0-15 M/T S/R tires to tuck under mine. I wont need to stretch the wheelwells at all as long as I center them.

Looking good.

What is he doing for mufflers?

I just put a set of 3 inch 44 series Flowmasters on mine.  The 44 seies is their loudest street muffler.  They sound awsome.

I just know he wants to be heard and not just seen.

Looks good.  Lots of shinny tin work.  My tubs are 19.5 inches wide and might be a bit wider but who cares.  I'm sure he will get some fat meats in there.

Wonder what size fuel cell he is using?  My tubs are so wide I could only get a 12 gal Jaz cell between the roll bars.

Keep the updates coming.

What a great looking car. Just wondering what size the wheels and tires are front and back and are those Cragar mags?
Also mentioned a "speedway" front suspension, meaning  purchased from Speedway or something else?

car pulls sooooo hard and just is soooo smooth its unreal, can not wait to see it all painted and at the local drag strip. This car will be doing wheelies with the owner behind it at the dragstrip, he built a toy to drive, not a show cat, and the ride today proved that to me!! enjoy and will post the video of the ride and donut that we did today!!!!

Wow this car looks awesome.  I have been watching this thread with much interest.  I would like to know if there is anyway you could get me some measurements of the rear frame work and roll cage.  I really like the door bars.  This car has a perfect stance, and looks ready to race.  Did you by chance use drop spindles on the front?  Any info would be much appreciated.  I would also like to see some video.

I love it !!! It's the direction my '73 Sedan may be heading eventually but as badly as I wanted to run my 302/T5 combo, I keep leaning toward a 2.3 turbo/T5 instead. This build reinforced my desire to tuck the 29x15.5 Sportsmans I bought for it, although my '07 Stang needs an influx of cash to get the 5.4 capable of 800 RWHP so a lot of stuff may get sold off to pay the bill......

We are looking heavily into cutting up the dragster to graft the back half into the `78. Gotta have meats that are as close as possible to touching one another. Dragster can`t get certified anymore without damn near redesigning the whole chassis. Plus it hasn`t seen a track in over 6 years. Dana 60 rear with disc. I` want to run 33x16.5`s under it. This oughta work. ;D
