1600 motor; why me?
« on: June 26, 2006, 01:15:24 AM »
Novice owner of street Pinto here. I raced a 2300 for a couple of years and love that motor. Saw a 2000 once. Didn't even know the 1600 existed until this '72 sedan came along. I don't see much chat about them. Duh!
Want to install a 302, but don't know diddly. Is there a "must have" book, Bible, magazine article, or ? on what I need to know? I am a senior and don't have time to reinvent the wheel.
A couple of quick questions in addition to above request for resources:
        1. I know to get a bigger rear end, but can I use the existing 4-speed?
        2. Is there a paint that sticks to the 'plastic' interior panels?
        3. Where might I find a new grill?

         Thanks,
          John

1. Get an 8" from a pinto, bobcat or mustang II, and no on the tranny (and only a maybe the driveshaft).
2. I have gotten a few different brands of the plastic paint, but none seem to work well.
3.  Here or ebay.

There are many people out there selling mustang II v8 parts, and they will advertize that the parts will fit in a pinto and make a v8 install easy; Don't belive all of it, some will, some won't, do your own research.
